If you're suffering from extreme random lag spikes I suggest you open Task Manager; go to processes.
If you see more than one rundll32.exe processes running you have a virus which probably won't be detected by any anti-virus software. I tried.
Go into your System32 folder. If rundll32.exe has a File icon it's corrupt.
What you need to do is:
Open CMD Start > Run > cmd
type in
takeown /f C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe
Hit enter and type:
cacls C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe /G rdx:F (NOTE: Please replace ‘rdx’ with your System Username)
Now head over to C:\Windows\System32 and delete the rundll file. If you still cant delete, restart your computer in Safe Mode and open CMD. Then type in del C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe
If you did it right this should work.
Now go to your Windows folder and look in C:\Windows\Prefetch folder or the ‘i386′ folder for the backup.
Once in one of the folders search for anything with RUNDLL32.EXE You will want to find the one with the size closest to 56kb, copy and paste it to your system32 folder and rename it rundll32.exe
Restart and it should be fixed. If not then you may have the wrong backup. Then you will need to download a clean version of rundll32.exe off the internet (be careful) and put it in System32.
If you don't the virus will either search for your personal details IE Credit Card info or use your computer to do illegal things such as Denial of Service Attacks. |

| A better solution would be to switch to Linux however you may lose compatibility for certain applications like games. |

I didn't tell anyone to delete System 32.
Look it up
rundll32.exe is Windows host process to open DLL applications and files however if corrupted it could become dangerous. |

"I didn't tell anyone to delete System 32."
oh not directly of course
but the deleting of one file or program could still mess up the entire system |

Which is why we do this in Safe Mode with Networking.
Look it up if you don't believe me. Lots of people suffer from this.
Jeez. |

many people have probably heard lots about how you shouldnt delete system 32
so they will avoid deleting or changing anything in system 32 simply because of the paranoia |

Yes however if something in System 32 becomes infected; especially a process like rundll32 or COMdll you could have security issues.
Which is why Windows keeps a Backup. |

Then you should be good.
If your CPU ever maxes out or you have random lag spikes I suggest you do the check again.
I got this after downloading a movie.
Should've known. |

It was from Pirate bay and had good responses.
