I am loving to voice my opinion on this. Now before I get hate messages saying "WEHERES TEH SUGGESTION!" It's right here. "Stop spending so much time on these game conferences, and spend more time into the game"
Now onto the topic at hand. Everyone knows about the RGC, or ROBLOX Game Conference, as it has been heavily advertised on banners, the blog, and notifications the past few months. Also, everyone remembers the ROBLOX Rally last year. Now I'd like to point out how all the new things featured at the 2011 conference didn't come out for 2+ months. And considering trends, I bet this will continue this year. Now, I understand how ROBLOX is getting big, but most games don't have conferences like this. Especially games targetting this audience.
Onto costs. ROBLOX is a company centered near San Francisco, California. So shipping an entire staff, plus all of their items to cities around the country, and the world would cost tens of thousands. ROBLOX just doesn't have that kind of money, so they make the conference where they are headquartered. This leading many people from around the world un-able to come. Nearly 90% of the ROBLOX community doesn't attend these conferences, because of monetary constraints. From where I live, I'd need to fly to San Francisco. And since I cannot fly to San Francisco alone, it would require a parent to go with. Since most other people would love to come to San Francisco too, that means roughly 4 Round-trip airline tickets. So the trip already costs $1200. Now, hotels in San Francisco aren't cheap. Considering the 2-night minimum for most hotels, it would mean roughly $600 for lodging. This trip is at $1800. Now adding the cost of admission to the conference. Originally charging $40 a person, the tickets dropped to $10. So that is $1840. Adding on the food that we have to eat, this trip will cost approximately around $2000. Now, I'd MUCH rather spend that $2000 toward a good trip like to Wisconsin Dells, Disneyworld, Cedar Point, etc. Wouldn't you?
Also, trying to lure people in with free retextures of virtual and real items isn't the best. BUY A TICKET NOW AND RECEIVE A WATER BOTTLE WITH ROBLOX DECALS ALL OVER IT! Okay? And making people show up at the event to get these things doesn't make me want to go anymore than I did before. Why should I spend $1800+ that you WONT GET, just to get a T-shirt? It's pointless to me.
Here comes to my conclusion. These conferences are a waste of time if only 10% of the community goes. I bet this whole conference is so ROBLOX can delay releasing things because they want us to buy tickets to find out what's coming, even though we ALREADY know. I bet at this year's RGC, the things they demo are the In-Game Character Changing, The Trade System, 3.0 Bodies and ROBLOX Studio 2.0. Stuff we already knew about. So again, my suggestion, stop making these pointless conferences, and make more updates to the game.

I think they're spending way too much time on events in real life, when they >should< be helping improve the website/game play.
(This was supposed to be in my other post but I forgot to add it.) |

@bran
Ok
A trip to the conference would cost $2000. Too much. This meaning 90% of the ROBLOX community doesn't attend. So I say spend more time working on the game then these conferences.

YOU MENTIONED THE PARK THAT HAS THE MOST ROLLER COASTERS IN THE WORLD, AND IT'S IN OHIO. INSTA-LIKE. Relevence win? Back on subject. You're QUITE right. Who's going to spend about 2K, not including the ticket to go to a random RGC? You sir, have won. I can't describe to you how much I want you to be a public figure of awesome.

| At the first conference I've been to America (and I live in Switzerland). It was just random luck that I was in San Francisco at that time aswell, since we made a journey. Guess what? We didn't even go to that conference. lol |

"Most games targeting this audience don't have Game Conferences like this."
I faintly remember every large game with this audience having one. Anyway, RGC actually makes them money. You say about 10% of the community goes.
Based on that estimate, something around 1 million+ players go to that conference? A 10 dollar admission fee. 10 million dollars?
10 MILLION dollars? A waste of money, indeed. |

| read the whole thing. Agreed. I would have to fly also, and my parents would not be fond of paying 2k for a trip to a conference on an online game. I would have to do their jobs for 2 months to get them to even consider it. |

| You either suggesting .1 of the community goes, which would equal 10 percent (-_-) or that .1% of the community attends, which despite being entirely unreasonable, Roblox would still be making around 100,000, which would still contradict the present argument. |

I haven't been being hostile. You can't really tell how I mean to sound through the neutral tone of text.
So can we just dismiss anything of the sort as a misunderstanding? |
