Oh man. It's been a year and 3 concepts now, but we're nearing completion. I remember the day I started W4 (which was the original BiB and the successor of W3 which is in bases now) and I looked at the update thinking it'd be a similar upgrade as W2 to W3. But boy I was wrong.
Owen went to university, I was on my own during the whole time of W4. I made some very interesting stuff there, including some very interesting vehicles and weapons. Sadly, I overestimated Roblox's capacity and W4, after 4 months in development (yeah, having school and all really doesn't want to make you work on it that quickly), had to be canceled and thrown away. It was fantastic but Roblox simply could not manage it, which was 90% my fault. Vehicles were canceled, and I stopped doing the regular 'updates' on BiB. But fear not, for Project BiB was not dead!
W5 was started. Owen had time and the old SS 40/60 scripting building, Owen 60/40 scripting building combo had returned. We nailed that code. It was supreme in every way imaginable. We had to even throw away some of Roblox's features just to make our tech the best it possible could be. We redid Roblox health, Roblox animations, the Roblox tool system, the Roblox everythinggg. W5 had grown to be a lot more, and more 'new', than W4 ever was. Project BiB had new life.
But then. We got backstabbed by Roblox itself. Things that worked a year before, like in Owen and Stickmasterluke's "Combat revisited" suddenly did not work in Roblox anymore, or at least, did not flawlessly. We were afraid we had to give up on W5. Another idea, another failure.
But was it?
I happen to be in a good mood sometimes. And when I am, I script. I took W5 apart, put it in pieces, and put it together again to make it working. It was W5, but different, healed with bandages. It was the W5 "engine", but made possible. Owen and I realised we had a chance, and we took it. We removed the bandages and started 'healing' the thing. It became a whole different idea. We called it W6. We were now in our third concept of Project BiB.
Again, being the perfectionist I am, wanted to remaster its GUIs, perfect its gameplay feel, make sure it's the ultimate working machine. And it paid off. Darn, W6 looks fantastic and no one can deny that. It has that definite feeling that just screams WIJ.
There were problems. Welds were acting up. We, again, had to dump some of Roblox's stuff to make up our own. It took us a whole month to perfect the welds and we're proud of it. I can't deny that we got very frustated at the end. Who am I kidding, we were frustated by the end of W4.
Then there's the occassional bug that doesn't want itself to be found. I hate those. They're usually ridiculously stupid logical errors that you miss 100 times before you find it. Frustation to the max.
After completing the guns, GUIs, objectives and other gameplay related objects, we realised we had to make a base. The base I made for W4, the base that was seemingly bigger than Cerulean by any chance, was dropped because vehicles were canceled after W4. Roblox just isn't ready for them, Roblox just isn't ready for us. It's a truth we have to endure.
So what was next? Building a new base seemed like the only possible solution. Owen made a personal build server, inserted a build tool, and there we go. We worked a whole week on the outline of the map, and another month to perfect it, color it and make it work (scripts and such). Meet Outpost Vermillion. Located on the first of two moons orbiting a yet unknown planet.
______
We've done playtests. A lot of them. And we're finally starting to realise that the release of Project BiB is getting here, after a year, lots of frustration and 3 concepts. We're nearly "going gold". Which is the videogame developer term for "ready for mass production" or in Roblox's case "Ready for release". When we go gold, it'll be soon that BiB will be released. There will be another announcement for when we actually do go gold.
Are we all ready?

*important* PS: I will not give you a release date. I hate deadlines and I can't guarantee you anything, sorry. It's soon, trust me. Infinitely times sooner than Episode 3. Thanks. |

Spectrum seems stupid.
BiB seems better.
However... BiB does not have a release date making it better.
AND CT! UR RELEASE DATE WAS LIEK JUNE, IT'S ALMOST JULY 4TH!

no no, you should've said something like
"vaktus came and burned our testing facilities down, and we lost everything in a fiery inferno of despair"
instead of
"roblox updated and broke everything"

Everyone knows things are more interesting when there's a tear-jerking backstory about loss and devastation.

@disco
you mean
THE TERRIBLE LOSS OF PLANET AERIS 3 AND THE CAPTURE OF MY CREW INTO ENEMY HANDS MADE ME UNABLE TO CREATE A LOG ENTRY HAVING SUFFICIENT EMOTION AND MICHAEL BAY-LIKE EXPLOSIONS FOR UAF'S NEEDS. OH NO. I BELIEVE A HOSTILE IS CLOSING IN ON MY LOCATION. I WILL DRAW MY WEAPON AND POSITION IT ON THE DOOR'S GENERAL LOCATION, THE LAST PLACE WHERE MY SO-CALLED "EARS" HEARD FOOTSTEPS CLOSING IN.
