[Reposting with fixes.]

Hi there. I will try to go back to my old self and not be so strict, or 'mean' as some of you call it. Anyways, the term 'Newbie' refers to someone who is raw, or new. It is not an insult.

I am PurelyRandom. I am known for writing some stories and hosting Medieval or Science Fiction role-plays. I was originally known for being a serious role-player, though nice. I am still nice, but I am strict to people who disobey the rules and argue about it.

1.0 - {Flaming}
Role-Players are known for Flaming and Trolling. Deal with it. If someone flames your thread, the best way to deal with it is to ignore the person(s). When someone is flaming you and/or your thread, they are simply expressing their opinions in a mean way. Of course, the flamer shouldn't even be wasting their time flaming, but some people are just dumb or immature. Flaming is something like: "This thread is horrible. You suck at writing threads. Never come back here again."

1.1 - {Trolling}
Again, Role-Players are known for Flaming and Trolling. And again, deal with it. If someone trolls your thread, the best way to deal with the problem is to simply ignore them, just like you do to a Flamer. Trolls are people who simply have nothing to do in their spare time, so they waste their time trolling threads (4-word alliteration. Boo-ya.). Obviously, Trolls have nothing good to do. They're just like the kids who join gangs. Trolling is something like: "I eat a cake and the world explodes. The end."

1.2 - {Constructive Criticism}
Alright. This is the big 'debate' or something. For some reason, people seem to think Constructive Criticism is Trolling or Flaming. I will say this straight out: It is not. Constructive Criticism is good. They are basically, in my opinion, "Tips that are expressed in a strict, or somewhat 'mean' way." Now some of you may be wondering, why did he say 'mean'? Well, some role-players think Constructive Criticism is mean, though they still accept it.

Constructive Criticism is meant to give someone feedback and tips. It is not meant to insult the person in any way. Constructive Criticism is not saying: "This thread is horrible. It sucks." Constructive Criticism is saying something like this: "This thread is horrible. It sucks because this and that and so on and so forth."

2.0 - {Writing a Story}
Writing a story here on the Role-Playing Forum may be a little, or a lot, different than writing a story somewhere else. The reason being, many experienced role-players tend to criticize newbie role-players' stories. Usually they have a good reason to: The grammar is terrible, the plot needs work, there are too many spelling mistakes, etc.

2.1 - {Story-Writing Tips & Tricks}
When you write a story, you should create an outline.
This outline should explain...
- The main storyline
- The antagonist(s) and protagonist(s)
- The non-important characters
- The side storylines
- The genre

This outline does not have to be a whole story. It could be written in bullets. Its purpose is to guide you along the process of writing the actual story. Trust me, it is a whole lot easier than free writing as you go along.

Next, you should try to make your story original. People, especially the experienced role-players, hate it when a story is based off of another story, a movie, a game, or even a Roblox group (That means you, VAKkies). Making an original story is not easy. Believe me, I know. But it makes everyone like you more, and gives you a good reputation.

Finally, you should determine what genre you want your story to be about. It could be anything, really. We'll talk more about this next.

2.2 - {The Genres}
There are many, many genres out there. I will only name a few in this thread. Genres are the 'type' or 'kind' of story you're writing. The Genre could be Medieval, Science Fiction, Modern, High School, Underwater, War, anything. The Genre is important, however. Most people don't want to see a story all about toilets or elephants. Choose the Genre that feels natural to you. Choose one that you know a lot about. You watch a lot of Star Trek? Choose Science Fiction! You watch a lot of Glee? Choose High School! It doesn't matter what you choose.

3.0 - {What is Role-Playing?}
Many people have different views of role-playing. For this thread, I will post my take of it.

Role-Playing is the use of a persons imagination, creativity, and originality to create 'stories'. Nowadays, however, imagination, creativity, and originality have dropped tremendously. You wouldn't believe how original, amazing, and spectacular the threads were way back when. Role-Playing is a way for people to express themselves through their Role-Playing Character. They can act however they want, whenever they want. It's sort of like a freedom.

Role-Playing is a way for people to escape the reality of the world and become their own fantastical character. This character could be their hero, perhaps. Again, it's like a freedom.

3.1 - {Writing a Role-Play}
Role-Playing gets a bit trickier than story-writing. Sometimes. When you write a role-play, you need to find out what 'mood' the role-players are in. By mood, I don't mean happy, sad, angry, or calm. I mean what genre and what type of role-play people are currently in to. Right now, I think the role-players are in the 'Free-Join' type of mood. The genre is a bit harder to find, but I believe it's into the Steampunk or Medieval eras. More Medieval.

3.2 - {The Types of Role-Plays}
The Types of Role-Players are somewhat difficult to learn. Even I don't know all of them. I will list the ones I know, and people can correct me or add others below.
Known Types of Role-Plays...
~ Free-Join ~
[This is a role play that begins with a quick story. It then allows players to join the roleplay whenever and wherever they want. These role-plays normally do not have a fixed character sheet.]
Pros: +Allows role-players to decide when to jump in; +Allows role-players to form their character through story
Cons: -Can sometimes get out of control with godmodding; -Can sometimes progress too fast, confusing people who want to join; -If a player goes offline for a long time, it can ruin the role-play; -It is sometimes hard for role-players' characters to meet

~ ISRPs or Single-Player Role-Plays or Single-Player Free Choice Role-Plays ~
[(I'm not exactly sure these are the same thing. If they aren't, please correct me.) This is a role-play that strictly revolves around a single player.]
Pros: +Allows role-players to have complete control of their character and the world without interruption; +Gives role-players the opportunity to be a hero, whereas they are the 'sidekicks' in other role-plays
Cons: -If the role-player goes offline for a long time, the thread usually dies; -Can get boring making up a story for a single person

~ Sandbox Role-Plays ~
[A Sandbox role-play is a role-play in which role-players are free to do whatever they want, unless a rule forbids it. These usually have character sheets.]
Pros: +Allows players to control anything from a single hero to a massive civilization; +Gives the players a free, open world to do whatever they wish
Cons: -It is often hard for the role-players' characters or civilizations to meet; -A person who is online more often usually becomes more powerful than the others

~ Classic Role-Plays ~
[The most-used type of role-play here, the Classic RP usually consists of a character sheet, a short story, and rules. Some role-players 'spice it up' by adding a new set of miscellaneous things, such as a powerful NPC (Non-Player Character).]
Pros: +Most people know what this is, and there would be little to no confusion; +Is a great way to practice making role-plays
Cons: -Sometimes overused. Most of the 'bad' RPs fall under this category. (This does NOT mean all of these RPs are bad. It's just that all of the bad ones are these types.)

I'm sure there are more. I just can't think of any right now.

3.3 - {How to Make a Good Role-Play}
When you make a good role-play, you have to consider the following things: Are people in the mood for this genre or type of role-play? Is it too difficult for people? Is it fun? Will people stay active?

To make a good role-play, you should always add something to 'spice things up'. For example, if you're making a role-play about two factions fighting each other, you should add something to make things a bit more interesting. Like a third army controlled by you, or a catastrophe that occasionally happens. Be creative.

Going off of my last sentence. Be creative! There are endless possibilites with words. You can send role-players on an adventure that makes them heroes, or cause them to die terribly, or even spark a war between their civilizations. Again, anything is possible. You just have to imagine it.

I don't know about you, but when I imagine a great fight, something in my body begins burning. The burning doesn't hurt me, but it gets me excited. Of course I know it's the adrenaline, I'm not stupid. When you feel this adrenaline pumping, write your story or role-play IMMEDIATELY. This adrenaline will soon run out and you won't want to write anymore.

4.0 - {Miscellaneous}

Why do I leave section 4.0 blank, you ask? Well, that is where the other experienced role-players come in. They add what they feel is needed, or if they want to add anything.

Thanks for reading!

I swear to whatever gods you desire me to, that this needs to be top of the list, for killer preciseness on exactly what is expected. Thank you for have enough of a brain to understand these things and explain it in such details to the newbie's of the RP section. I am sure your work will not go unappreciated.
