I am a big fan of FreeBSD, but Haiku looks pretty sweet.

@myrkos

"At this time we do have a legal case of our own against Apple Computer. Apple has been using the Unix trademark on and in connection with its OS X product. This constitutes an infringement of our trademark since OS X is not certified under our Unix system certification program, and Apple has refused to use that program to obtain certification. Apple is obviously a valued member of The Open Group, and we have tried to reach an arbitrated settlement. However, all of our offers have been declined, so we have had no choice but to fulfill our duty to our customers and the industry as a whole to protect the Unix trademark."

Mac OSX isn't Unix compliant.

@thelastbunny,

Just because the Unix people don't classify it as such doesn't mean OS X itself isn't based off it, or doesn't follow most of its guidelines.

1. Mac OSX does not respect your freedom.
2. Mac OSX contains software that does not respect your freedom.
3. Apple is a horrible company in general, and they and their users should be culled.
4. Mac OSX is neither GNU/Hurd, BSD, or GNU/Linux.

1-2. Honestly, you shouldn't care about that.
3. fanboyism
4. OS X uses the Mach kernel, whose derivative is also the kernel of GNU Hurd.

You can tell me all about Apple being a horrible company and I can wholeheartedly agree with you, however I'm not going to have biased opinions. Mac OS X is a good OS.
What's wrong with it?

Why should I not care about my freedom? I am not a fanboy of any one operating system, I am more of an anti-fanboy of Apple.

Enjoy your malware, Apple scum.

Also, Unlike GNU, Mac OSX does not respect my freedom.

Macs aren't exactly overpriced, it's just the compressed hardware that dramatically raises the price.

For my desktop, probably this order:
Windows 8 (mostly because of performance stuff)
Windows 7
Fedora
Mac OS X
Windows Vista
Ubuntu

For a mobile device, Android 4 is pretty amazing. I've got a touchscreen notebook tablet transformer thing running Android 4.

@Emess:

1. Mac OSX does not respect your freedom. (See: free as in freedom)
2. Mac OSX is a locked down, bloated operating system that is a mockery of Unix.
3. Mac OSX only runs on grossly expensive toys (Don't even mention Hackintosh or I will laugh at you)
4. Mac OSX has a trillion delusional fan boys (see: Emess).
5. Install Gentoo

@Emess's statement about muney:

Don't make me laugh. Macs are horrendously over priced, and that "hardware compression" only contributes to heat. While you may like shiny metal toys that value aesthetics over performance, I do not. Macs are jokes, Steve Job is laughing with his money grubbing friends about how many sheep ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS

YES I MAD, GO WORSHIP YOUR CANCEROUS LEADER ELSEWHERE.

Also, Steve was a horrible person, if for no other reason than making Dennis Ritchie and John McCarthy's deaths go unnoticed.

@thelastbunny,

The fact that you have given absolutely no support for your argument about the OS being horrible shows that you're just another one of those Linux fanboys. Do you even know what it means for software to respect your freedom? It means you can change it and distribute those changes freely. Are you ever going to do this? Most likely no, and if you are then just don't use OS X. Saying OS X is bad because it doesn't respect your freedom is a stupid argument, because that isn't the purpose of the OS. The purpose is to use it how it is, so _that_'s what you're supposed to be criticizing, not whether it allows you to study and modify it. If you don't like its purpose then leave it alone and go back to your open-source world.

ORLY? Macs ok, iPhone 4S 512 ram, 16gb, no SD slot, 3.5 inch screen 1Ghz = 600$

Samsung Galaxy S II 1Gb ram, 1,2 Ghz processor, 4.3 inch screen = 470$

Evidence talks by itself

You sir, are ignorant. Have you *used* one of those new MacBooks? They're really nice.

I'm not a Mac fan, but Mac OS X is a *really* slick operating system. The multitouch gesture trackpad is pretty nice too, but I've got one in my Asus Transformer Pad too. It *is* expensive, but that's not the purpose of a Mac. MacBooks aren't intended for people who only look at performance in a computer. They're not intended for application programmers, but you can be one still (kind of) if you use a Mac. They **are** intended for people who have enough money to invest in a couple things and prioritize them over other things that the average computer user isn't going to care about:
1.) Huge display resolutions (targeting graphic designers here)
2.) Seamless integration between application and operating system
3.) Form Factor
4.) General Aesthetics

@LPG Indeed, MacBooks are good pieces of technology, but you can get a better PC with less money
