ACID RAIN

Chapter 1

Beep! Beep! The alarm clock went off in the pitch black of the room. Mark Mendiola rolled over in the bed and smacked the snooze button. He climbed out of bed and looked in the mirror.
His dark brown hair was relatively short but it was a little messy. His skin was tanned, from the Mexican in his blood. He also had dark brown eyes. He was somewhat short for his age, but made up for it with his intelligence.
Mark grabbed the comb by the mirror and fixed his hair the best he could. It was somewhat flat but there were a few parts sticking up.
‘That’s good for now’, He thought.
Mark looked around until he found the closet. He opened it up and took out a clean shirt. After he put it on, he noticed a piece of paper on his bed.
After slipping a pair of jeans on, he walked over and picked up the paper. It was a permission slip for a field trip that he’d forgotten to have his mom sign.
He quickly grabbed his jacket and pulled it on as he ran down the stairs. As he turned the corner into the kitchen he nearly hit the wall. Steadying himself with one hand, he walked to his mom who was busy making coffee, then handed her the paper.
“Mom, can you sign this for me?” Mark asked.
“Sure, but what is it for?” his mom replied.
“Well, I have a field trip today that I had forgotten about and I really need you to sign it.” He said.
“And you expect me to be in a rush to sign the paper for you?” She responded, giving him an annoyed look.
“Yes please, I would really like to go on this trip. Plus, it is free!” He exclaimed.
“Well you will have to wait.” said his mom.
“Okay, but don’t forget!” said Mark.
His mom nodded as she continued to make her coffee. Mark went to the pantry to get some cereal.
‘Nothing too fancy,’ he thought,’ just some easy-quick-to-make-and-eat-cereal’
Mark quickly finished his cereal and washed his bowl and spoon. He then ran upstairs to brush his teeth. He tried not to rush but he also tried not to go too slow.
When he finished he quickly brushed his teeth. Just before he left the bathroom, he saw that his hair was sticking up even more during his run down the stairs. He combed it into place, as best he could. (At least it wasn’t sticking up anymore). Mark went down into the kitchen. His mom had left for work already. As he looked at the table he saw the signed permission slip with a note by it. The note read:
“Don’t forget your lunch!”

-Mom
Mark grabbed his lunch from the fridge and headed for the door. He was about to close it when he realized that he forgot to grab his ID card, bus pass, and house keys!
‘Not again!’ thought Mark.
He ran back into the house then up the stairs. He went into his room and turned in a circle twice before he remembered why he had come into the room. He suddenly realized why and he grabbed his keys, bus pass, and ID card out of his backpack. He ran down the stairs, for the third time, and then went out the door. Mark locked it as he approached the bus-stop he saw one of his friends.
Mark then said, “Hey Tim!”

Chapter 2

Tim rolled over, deep in sleep, when the lights came on.
“Tim, wake up!” his mom said.
Tim, with his face in his pillow, raised his hand in the thumbs-up position. His mom walked away to his relief so he got up and made his bed. After pulling on a dirty pair of shorts he grabbed some clean clothes and rushed into the bathroom to take a shower.
After the shower and after he put on a clean pair of clothes he sleepily walked to the counter to put in his contacts.
“Tim! Come down for breakfast!” His mom shouted.
Tim hurriedly brushed his teeth and ran down the stairs. As he came into the kitchen he smelled fresh bacon and eggs. He looked around and saw his dad! He must’ve stayed to say ‘goodbye’ to the family.
He sat down at the counter of the bar as he waited for the food to finish cooking.
“Morning”, his dad said as he came in.
“Mornin’. So, dad, how did you sleep?” Tim asked.
“Pretty good.” But at that precise moment his Blackberry began to ring.
“Son, I have to take this”, he said, “Give me a second.”
He walked into the dining room and answered his phone. Tim could only pick up certain snippets of the conversation.
“…unknown…aircraft…Mildenhall…general…safe house…” was really all Tim could hear, it was especially hard because he wasn’t close enough to his dad.
As his dad hung up and started to walk toward him, he shoveled in as much eggs and bacon as he could to look like he had been eating the whole time.
“Bud, I’m sorry but I just got a call and I need to go to Mendwith Hill for… a…a…A conference! I need to go to a conference. Okay son?”
“Yeah, sure dad. Thanks for staying to say bye.”
“No problem, love you son.”
“Love you too dad, but…um...hey, do you think you could-…”
“I’m sorry I really gotta go! You can ask me again later.” His dad interrupted.
“Okay well, bye dad!”
“Bye son!” His dad yelled to Tim as he walked out the front door.
Tim cleaned up the plates and silverware then waited for his mother to come downstairs and say bye. But after a minute he went into the foyer and put on shoes and slipped on his coat. He grabbed his backpack and opened the front door, letting the cold fresh air wash over his face.
Tim walked out the door to the bus stop. But as he was walking, three black trucks came and stopped in front of the base commander’s house. A man dressed in an all black suit ran up and rang the door bell.
He looks like some Secret Service guy from a movie. ‘Tim thought but for some reason he had a suspicion that he was the “real deal”.
Tim started walking a little faster to the bus stop, not wanting to know what was taking place.
Suddenly, the door flew open then the commander and the S.S. looking guy ran to the car. It pulled away as soon as they got in. It then shot away and left the neighborhood in a few seconds, blowing Tim’s papers away as it past him.
‘They have to be going past the speed limit’, thought Tim as he collected his papers off the ground.
As he stood up, he saw his friend Mark sprint back into his house.
‘Probably forgot something’, Tim thought to himself, silently chuckling.
A few seconds later, Mark re-emerged from his house and locked his door.
“Hey Tim!” Mark yelled, running towards him.
“Hey Mark!” Tim yelled, walking towards his friend.
“What’s up?” Mark asked, seeing Tim’s perplexed face
“Nothing just a few weird things have happened this morning.”
“Ah, well look”, he said, “Here comes the bus!”

Chapter 3

The big, white and blue bus, marked #9 pulled up to the bus stop to pick up the two boys.
“Tim…” Mark said, seeing his friend staring,” What are you staring at?”
Tim was staring at the girl he that he had a crush on for the past year. Her name was Jessica. She was talking with the girl that Mark liked, funny enough but Tim didn’t notice. It was usually Tim who had to get Mark’s attention away from Amy, the girl he liked, but since Tim met Jessica it was his job to pull Tim back into reality.
Mark grabbed him and pulled him onto the bus, flashing his bus pass for both of them and steer him to their regular seats.
As soon as they were seated, Mark grabbed his IPod from his backpack and the headphone splitter so that they could both listen to music. He handed a pair of headphones to Tim.
By this time, Tim had slipped out of his daydreaming and was already talking to his friend Drew. With his blonde hair and blues eyes, Drew was one of the more averaged sized 7th graders in the school. His height kept him out of the way of bullies while his personality was slightly on the nerdy side. Tim enjoyed talking to everyone, but mostly Drew because they both played an online game called Medieval Conqueror 3. Tim was the Strategist and Drew was the Battlefield General. Tim kept it a secret that he played though, well at least tried.
At the moment they were talking about one of their recent victories that Tim had planned perfectly. It had been a flanking maneuver but when they went into details they started to talk quieter. Mark had noticed that other “nerds” were trying to listen in on how to beat them. After all they had never lost.
A few minutes later, Tim turned back around in his seat and finally put the headphones in.
The bus ride was uneventful after that besides the occasional sound of laughter.
After the 45 minute bus ride was over, they both got everything they had and walked with everyone else down the aisle till they were outside. They then walked toward the 8th grade lines to be brought into the school.
“So, are you ready for the field trip to tour Mildenhall base?” Tim asked.
“Yeah, but I don’t see why we had to come to school today, we live right next to the base.” Mark replied, stepping into the line. “But then again, it would be weird waiting for everyone at the gate.”
Tim shrugged and stepped in line also just as the vice principle came up to inspect everybody. He pushed his short brown hair to the side as she started walking down the lines.
After she passed, Tim and Mark resumed talking about what the field trip would be like. A few minutes later the line began to move into the school.
As they walked into the school, they passed their math teacher, Mr. Korth. He was passing out the papers with the field trip info on it. The field trip was mostly for kids that showed interest in the military. Tim and Mark had both qualified for the trip through average grades and asking profusely about military procedures.
They both took one and glanced back to see who else would be going as well.
‘Yes!’ They both thought as the saw Amy and Jessica both take a paper.
“I’ll see you later.” Tim said as he walked into his homeroom.
As the teacher started talking, Tim thought about everything they would be seeing on base. He just couldn’t wait for the base tour!
Of course, Tim already knew everything about the Comm Squadron. His dad, Lieutenant Colonel Gene Harwood, was the commander of it. Tim was the most interested in the armory though. He had fired almost every single type of gun and studied about them. Also, he knew how to take apart and re-assemble some of them. His favorite type of gun though, was a sniper rifle.
The bell rang and Tim sprinted down towards Mark’s homeroom. He got there just as Amy and Jessica came out, causing him to stop suddenly and stare after Jessica as Mark came out of the room.
“Uh, Tim!” Mark said, waving his and in front of Tim’s blank stare.
“W…What?!” said Tim, snapping back into reality.
“We have to catch the bus before we are left behind!”
“You’re right!” Tim said as they both started walking hastily toward the main doors.
As they climbed onto the bus, Tim noticed about thirty other kids on it already. They knew a few of them but not very many. Tim knew more than Mark because he always goes around talking to people randomly. They found two empty seats near the back and they sat down.
Tim began talking with some others as Mark began to listening to his IPod. After a few songs he got bored and decided to save it for later. He put it away and began to listen in on Tim’s conversation.
"I hope they show us the armory, I bet it has a Talos 360 with a realigned sight. It uses 45 cal. bullets." Tim said.

"How do you know so much about all this stuff?" asked Jessica.

Tim took a while to answer then finally, shaking himself out of it (without Mark's help for once), he said, "My... Uh... My... Ummm... Dad teaches me."

Mark overheard two other boys talking a second later, "I think Tim likes Jessica!"

Mark pretended to cough while saying; "Obviously..."

Jessica looked at Tim and asked, "Your name is Tim, right?"

"Ye... Ye... Yeah"

"Oh, that's cool..."

Jessica's voice was fading away slowly as she started to turn back to Amy.

"Hey, you’re cute!" Tim suddenly said.

"Wait...what!?!" Jessica said; confused at what just happened.

"I mean....um....uh... Nice boots!"

"I'm not wearing boots though..."

"Oh, well it kind of looked like it..."

"I'm wearing flats... They look nothing like boots."

"Well...well... You would look kind of hot."

"Whoa… Hold on... Say what now!?!"

"I mean! Uhhh! You could have had them bought!"

"Ummm…"

"You know, because it might get cold..."

"Sure...?"

Tim turned around slowly placing his palm on his forehead.

'Tim, Tim, Tim...' Thought Mark pitifully, 'I guess being shy has its advantages... Hehehe’

Chapter 4

Amy turned and looked at Jessica, “What do you think of Tim?”
“He’s pretty cute, I guess…”
“Ehhhh…, “Said Amy, nudging Jessica with her elbow.
“Soooo… what do you think of Mark?!” Jessica asked suspiciously.
Amy thought for a moment then gave a gesture that looked like a shrug and a nod.
Meanwhile, the bus had passed through the base gate and was coming up to the visitor center. As it pulled up, three armed Special Forces guys emerged from the building.
As Tim came out of the bus he wandered over to the guys and looked at their guns.
“So, nice M16 you got there.” Tim said casually.
They all, along with Tim, burst out laughing. After a few seconds of laughter, Tim fist bumped all of them and turned around.
“Hey guys! These are my friends, Josh Locke, Seth Pager, and Drake Pennington.” Tim said, “They go to my church, and we all sometimes go play video games at the community center.
Smiling, the man that must’ve been Josh started telling them about everything that they would be seeing. Mark wanted to listen, but he was distracted by how empty the base seemed to be.
‘Strange, ‘Mark thought, ‘Not a car or person in sight…’
“This is going to be awesome!” whispered Tim to Mark.
Mark didn’t respond.
“Hey, Mark!?” whispered Tim.
“Oh, ye…yeah…sure” Mark responded.
Mark was still trying to figure out why everything seemed so strange. He kept thinking but couldn’t figure it out. He almost didn’t notice when the group began moving.
“Okay guys, we are going to be starting at the Airmen’s housing.”
Everyone made their way to the three vans in the visitor center’s parking lot. Mark and Tim sat next to each other in the second van. They watched in dismay as they saw the two girls get in a different van.
‘Dang it!’ They both thought, ‘Wrong van!’
On the bright side, they were in the van that Josh was driving. Josh started the van and pulled out of the lot behind the first van, which the girls were in.

¤ ¤ ¤

“Sir, you may want to see this…” The Lieutenant said.
Colonel Jensen walked through the command tower into the radar station. He walked to the Lieutenant and looked over his shoulder. As he stared at the screen in shock, his jaw dropped.
“Wait… that isn’t supposed to be there! Why haven’t we identified it yet!?” The Colonel said.

¤ ¤ ¤

Tim leaned over to whisper in Josh’s ear, “Hey, I need a favor… There are two girls on that van in front of us and, we were wondering if there was some way you could… get them on this van.” Tim said this in a questioning voice.
Josh turned slightly in the driver’s seat, looked at Tim and Mark then answered with a small nod and a smile that said “I understand”. Tim leaned back with a smile as Josh took out his walkie-talkie and began talking into it quietly.
After about a minute later the vans pulled off the main road then the driver got out and started talking. After another minute later, the drivers came back over and opened all the doors to the van.
“Okay people, there seems to be a problem,” Josh looked at Tim and Mark, “with the other vans and some of you will be switching.” Josh, Seth, and Drake began talking for a few more seconds as they began moving kids around.
The group of kids leaving the vans had confused faces, while others were grinning as they saw who they would be sitting with. Amy and Jessica started walking towards the van while Mark and Tim were saying a quick “thank-you” to the drivers.
Tim glanced over at Jessica and succeeded in making a quick wink. She turned away for a second before turning back around, blushing profusely. Tim then smiled at her, and turned back in his seat.
As Amy sat down next to Jessica, who was still blushing, she nudged her gently while saying, “Ehhhhh…”
A few moments after the vans pulled out again, the girls began listening in on what Tim was saying to Josh.
“... and then, we should check out the base bunker!” Tim finished saying.
Josh looked at Tim then sighed. “Okay, fine… I will tell Seth about it but I doubt that Drake will want to go, you how he gets with all these changes…”
“Thanks a ton man!” Tim said.
Josh’s face lit up in a wide grin as he turned to tell Seth the plans.

The control tower was chaotic as everyone was trying to get everything under control. Almost every useable computer was, in use, and each had a pair of military servicemen working at it.
“Bravo 11, rising to 11,000 feet from current level of 2,500 feet.” One of the airmen called out.
As the numbers were being called out, each man and women was putting the new information into their data; All except the Colonel. He was watching everything take place, trying to keep calm for the sake of everyone else.
“Colonel!”
Jenson turned to see who had called him. It was his runner and he was holding only one paper. “Sir, the unidentified plane’s course is a straight line, but considering the height it is at… and the speed it is going, it seems as it is prepared to drop something. What this could be we don’t know… but it most likely isn’t a load of pillows…”

Chapter 5

Josh continued driving down the road. Mark excitedly looked out the window, everything was rushing by. He saw the Youth Center pass; all the little kids were playing on the playground.
The Youth Center only took up a small amount of the base’s 25 miles. Mildenhall was the biggest base in the U.K. 20 miles from the bunker that were going to be at last to the radio tower, which was on the other side of the base. They began driving to the police station which was approximately ten minutes away.
Around eight minutes later Josh turned to look at Mark, and then smiled. He then glanced at Tim and said, “Hey guys… how about we just go straight to the bunker right now…?”
Tim and Mark glanced at each other then Tim said,” Can we bring Seth’s van too? We know more people on that van.”
Josh then began to radio Seth,” Hey, do you mind bringing your van to the bunker with me? I got some kids that want to see it first and they want their friends with them as well.”
“Sure, lead the way.” Seth replied.

¤ ¤ ¤

Jenson stood there, waiting for the final report. The colonel was extremely anxious; he had already sent word for the general to get to a safe location. The colonel was prepared to go down with the tower if he had to, just like the heroic captain going down with his ship in the old stories he read as a kid.
“Sir, we have confirmation from 67 other bases that unidentified planes are flying over them. Four of the 67 we have lost contact with after they reported screams, but nothing about a bomb…” One of the sergeants said.
“Any thoughts on the matter James?” the colonel asked.
“Well sir, I’d like to wager that they are all dead. I say this sir, because when we brought up satellite images, we didn’t know what to think…”
“What did you see then, and why wasn’t I notified immediately?”
“Sir, the reason is because 67 bases from America were calling in about planes… but after a while, we got distress calls from other bases across the world! Then, before we could investigate, we got the first S.O.S. from a civilian airport. After totaling up all the distress signals… we found that over 2,000 airports were relaying messages. Sir… that number has risen since and I thought it be best not to alarm anyone.” As the Sergeant James said this, everyone was quiet and looked to the colonel to see his reaction.
The colonel turned around to face the people and decided that he needed to say what was on his mind about all of this.
“Gentlemen… and ladies…. You are, as of now, relieved of duty… If you wish, you may stay here as I will… or you may, as I suggest you do, leave now and find a safe place to hide… Now, I have no idea what will happen next… We may die, we, may survive. If it is death that awaits us, then I hope that it may be a swift one.”
The men looked at each other, and after a few moments of silence three of the younger airmen ran out of the room while the rest of the men and women watched. About two seconds later everyone started working again, almost simultaneously!
The colonel had to smile because he had been suspicious about where those three men’s loyalty had been. He’d picked a good group of loyal men and women.
“Sir…” Private Jinkleson said, “The plane is to be here in fifteen minutes… according to the other reports, the planes have been dropping a greenish fluid in some mist form. We don’t know what kind of damage it will do but this is only because transmission stops before anyone was able to give further details. From the plane’s position to us it should take about twelve minutes to hit us.”
“So we will see what damage it’ll do when it gets to the ground, then…. I suppose, there isn’t anything more to do but prepare for the worst…” The colonel stated calmly.
“Yes sir, but…,” She started,” The number of airports has increased to 4,000. The original 2,000 are no longer broadcasting.”
The colonel slowly nodded then stared out the window, waiting….

¤ ¤ ¤

“Over this way…,” Josh said gesturing to the door on the left,” is the armory for when the danger up top is over and when we are unsure what is waiting outside. Since most of you kids may never see this armory, I will take you to see the inside!”
Josh turned his back to everyone in front of the number lock and typed in the code. A green light then came on and everyone filed into the room. Tim immediately went over to the sniper rifle rack and started mumbling to himself what each one was.
“Moron,” Jack Dawson said to the girl next to him. Funny enough, that girl was Jessica. She then turned around, disregarding what Jack said, then walked over next to Amy.
Mark watched all of this going on without doing anything. He just stood and watched the scene unfold. Jack was pretty big, not in the muscular way… but in the sumo wrestler way. Mark also knew, as most people did, to not get in his way. Jack had it out for Tim, but no one knew why.
Before anything could happen, Josh’s radio started going off. It was too fuzzy for Mark to understand and he was distracted with watching Amy, she was taking pictures of everything.
“This is Lieutenant Locke, what’s up?” Josh said into the radio. He brought the radio up to his ear and turned from the group. He spoke in a hushed voice, and then turned around looking a bit paler than usual.
“Okay guys, something just came up and I need to bring you back into the main part of the bunker. You will have to be locked in here so you don’t get into any trouble while I’m away, also so you don’t get me in trouble.” He said.
Everyone walked into the big room with sofas and chairs in it. Mark sighed as he came back into reality and then he began to pay more attention. Everyone was sitting down as Josh typed in the code to lock the armory. The door then slid open and Josh walked outside. A few seconds after the door slid shut and locked everyone began talking. Everyone except Mark and Tim.
Tim had watched when Josh put in the codes. The main door’s code was 4691, and the armory’s code was 3728. He was memorizing them, but for no particular reason.
Mark, however, was wondering why Josh had let so suddenly. Mark only heard two words when Josh was on the walkie-talkie… “Four minutes”
He sat there and looked down at his watch and saw the last two minutes tick by slowly.
‘3…2...1…’ he slowly counted down to himself.
Suddenly there were many screams heard outside. Screams of pain…

Chapter 6

Five minutes earlier…
“Sir, we have five minutes until the plane’s cargo hits us, and that tour from the middle school is still here!” one of the Master Sergeants exclaimed.
“I have found that only one of the vans is in danger while the other two are at the base’s bunker. If we warn them, it’ll be too chaotic. Two thirds of the kids will defiantly survive. The others….” The colonel’s voice trailed off. He then began a new subject immediately. “I need someone to inform Lieutenant Locke, and the other driver that is with him. They are to lock the kids in the bunker ASAP.”
“Yes sir.” One of the men said as he walked over to a rack of walkie-talkies.
“Since that’s been settled, we now need to help the kids find a way off the base safely… Jinkleson! Twenty-four hours after the drop I need those doors to the bunker to be opened.”
“Sir!” A man named Cornten yelled. “What about the kids on the other van!?”
“Cornten…” The colonel started,” Some losses, we must accept…”
Cornten then jumped up and ran at the colonel. Two base policemen stepped in and grabbed his arms. He struggled to break free, but they were too strong.
“My…my… my son was on that field-“He was then interrupted by his cell phone. “Hello? Oh, son! Alright, you just enjoy the trip. Son... I love you…” Cornten then hung up, tears were in his eyes. “He is at the bunker sir… I’m sorry…”
“I understand that you love your son and you don’t want to lose him. I am just trying to do the best for everyone…”

¤ ¤ ¤

Presently…
Some of the kids were underneath tables; some were huddled in a group, while others were sitting quietly… waiting to find out what had just happened. The screaming had stopped after about two minutes. No one had spoken during, or since then. Everyone watched the main doors. Everything was like that for almost an hour, it was dead silent…
¤ ¤ ¤

One minute until drop…
“Attentions everyone, t-minus 47 seconds until impact.” The PA system announced.
Everyone watched the windows. A few maintenance men scurried around outside, unaware of what was about to happen. The satellites had gone down a few seconds before they could see any damage.
“T-minus 25 seconds”
Everyone had left their posts and was now stationed in front of all the windows. A single plane flew overhead and Colonel Jennson followed it with his eyes. To his surprise, there were no markings on the plane. There were no numbers, symbols, insignias, or anything…
“T-minus 10… 9… 8…”
A greenish/tan like cloud was sweeping towards them. It was seeping through anything but concrete and some metals! This tower, however, was wooden…
The men on the ground saw the cloud, but were too late and as they ran towards the tower they were overtaken. Their screams were the last thing that Colonel Jennson heard.

¤ ¤ ¤

Two hours after the drop…
“What?” Eli Connors said, just about everyone else was thinking the same thing.
“I said,” Tim began,” I memorized the codes for both doors and that if anyone knows how to fire a gun then please speak up…”
“I can fire most handguns. I would prefer using a Mac11 or an Uzi though.” Mark said.
Some people gave strange looks and thought he was just making this up. No one knew him to have actually fired anything.
“I job shadowed my mom and I got to shoot some guns, okay…?” Mark said shrugging.
“I think I could fire a pistol…” Amy yelled out, although her face showed that she had no idea what she was saying.
“I would like to use a Dan Wesson M1911 ACP pistol.” A girl named Diana Jacobson said.
Soon almost everyone in the room said or thought they could shoot a gun of some sort. Tim then got out a clipboard with some paper and started jotting down all the guns that the kids were requesting.
“I’ll take a Shoulder-launched Multipurpose Assault Weapon.” Jack said.
Jack then sneered at Tim as he wrote it down, frowning slightly.
“Jack, that thing has nasty recoil.” Tim insisted.
“But, you only need to take one shot.” Jack said, still sneering.
“Depends on what… or who you are planning to shoot…” Tim replied cautiously.
“You don’t believe I would actually kill someone… do you?” He said with an innocent looking face that everyone knew was fake.
“No, of course not…”
“Then how about you open the armory and get us our guns.”

Chapter 7

“One magnum!” Tim shouted, it was the second to last gun on the list.
Jessica walked up to him and casually grabbed the hilt of the gun.
“Thanks Tim!” She said.
“Uhh… You’re welcome…” He managed to say.
She began walking away then Tim yelled, “So, you know how to use it… right?”
She then turned back around and came up to him, causing him to blush.
“Of course I do, my dad is the police commander! He taught me how to use most basic guns.” She said with a smile.
“Wow, that’s cool.”
“Yeah.” She replied, still smiling. Then she turned around and walked away.
Tim resisted zoning out and then yelled,” And last, the SMAW…”
Jack got up and walked over to Tim. He grabbed the missile launcher and then leaned in towards Tim.
“Watch your back,” Jack whispered slyly,” some guns tend to fire… on accident.”
“You don’t scare me…”
Jack smiled and walked back to his seat. Tim watched him stride as if he had just won an award.
‘Pfft, I could take him easy…’ Tim thought to himself.
Mark approached Tim and said, “So, what now? We all have defense of some kind…” He glanced at a kid named Jerry Stein who had requested that he have a tazer and a can of pepper spray. “Are we going to move, stay, or what? Everyone is very nervous.”
“Trust me,” Tim responded, “I know what I’m doing.”
“I sure hope so…” Mark said quietly to himself.
Everyone watched as Tim disappeared into the back room. After a few minutes he returned with three boxes, one filled with straps and clips, one with a variety of ammunition, and another with some basic equipment.
“Mark! Come and help me with this!” Tim shouted as he walked into the back room.
“Sure…?” Mark responded with a puzzled look.
Mark walked into the back room behind Tim. A few moments later they returned with three more boxes, each with the same contents as the previous three.
“So, I’m guessing you have a plan?” Mark said to Tim with a grin.
“You know it” Tim responded.
Mark stepped to the side so that Tim could have all attention.
"Gentlemen, and ladies", Tim began, "We do not know for sure what is out there..."
A few people started nodding and looking nervously at the front door.
"Now we need to ban together, for the common greater good; to get off the base. If we are to succeed, we need to go about 2 hours south to the gate, and escape."
The room roared as all the kids yelled and cheered.
“Okay”, Tim said, quieting them down. "Everyone, the only way for us to get there with no one starving to death, is to leave tonight!"
Everyone in the room went silent.

"Now, I know you're all scared, but we need to move, the supplies in the bunker are almost all out and we can't survive another night. I need you all to get your guns and meet here with ammo and supplies in 2 hours. Whoever's out there will have fewer guards by then and we can overpower them; but we must move quickly.”

Everyone in the room stared for a second, then ran off in all directions. Tim strolled quickly to the command room and grabbed his 2 guns; his sniper rifle and his silent pistol. With a total of about 30 kids, the group had about a 1 in 100 chance of getting off the base but Tim knew they had to try.

He hustled to the front door and prepared for the others. He grabbed 7 ammo clips for the rifle and 16 for the pistol. Never know how long they'd be fighting... the first of the kids started showing up... 3 of the kids Tim had handpicked for his sniper squad showed up brandishing their weapons.

Chapter 8
An hour and a half later all the kids were there and ready to go, more or less.

"Tim what are you staring at?" Mark asked.

"Nothing", Tim said as he turned from staring at Emily.

“Are you sure man…?” Mark asked in a both friendly and curious tone.

“Yea, I will be fine, I’ll tell you when this is all finally over…” Tim said reassuringly. Mark knew, though, that Tim didn’t have a clear mind and at this vital point in time.

Actually, Mark’s mind wasn’t clear at all. So many thoughts ran through his head. He held on to his Uzi tighter and slowly put his hand on his Mac 11. Tim noticed this and felt just a bit uneasy. They were both nervous; none of them knew exactly what would happen next. Tim managed to push the nervousness aside, while Mark was holding on to his weapon tighter. Mark knew he had to stay calm and have a clear state of mind but, it seemed like his conscious wouldn’t let him. Tim had, over the days, become very good at hiding this nervousness and he could tell Mark was trying his best to hide it.

Tim turned, addressed his full audience, and cleared his throat.

"Everyone here, you have all been very brave and determined throughout this whole ordeal, you have stuck together, even when others have led the way to rebellion." There were a few nervous coughs.

"But now, we must face, not something within us, but beyond us, beyond our own comprehension, at this point in time." Some people started nodding.

"We need to face this new threat, together. To embrace and destroy what is out there to free ourselves from its power; to cut ourselves free, from the fear inside of ourselves; to accept or rebel the forces outside this door behind me; And to accept each other as brothers and sisters." Mark looked at Jessica and Emily.

"But now, I'd like to give the choice of staying, to whoever would like to stay; to allow you and not force you, to go or stay here with or without us. There are enough rations for around 3 days of food. Then you'll be on your own."
He looked around, and saw 3 hands rise.

"Sir! Request to stay in the building and secure it. In case you come back, “The tallest and leader of the triplets said.

"James, there's no need for you to st..."

"Sir, in case you come back,” He said glancing at the 'youngest' of them.

Tim glanced over at him and noticed tear stains.

"Then yes, of course, but if you change your mind, you know the plan."

“Yes sir.”

Tim turned back to the crowd as the boys went off throughout the complex.

"Now, will there be anyone else?" Tim said glancing around, praying that no one else would leave.

"Good, then are you ready to go with me into the unknown? Are you ready to challenge the authority of the monstrous people outside of this door?!"

The response he got was a roar of “yes’s”

Tim calmly turned and typed in the code slowly...

7----3----6----1

The door opened and Tim clipped his headset walkie-talkie onto his ear and turned it on. 39 others followed suit.

Chapter 9
The Cold night air spilled into the bunker like a long lost angry friend. It bit at their skin as it snaked throughout the area.
Tim pressed his hand to the button and spoke, “Alpha team, follow me, the rest of you, stay back. We'll signal you when we are ready."
Tim, 4 boys, and 5 girls, left into the chilling night air. There was a fog that was still dissipating but becoming clearer and clearer every second.
That was when they saw him... Or her... Tim couldn't make out the distinct shape of the body, but judging by how the uniform was ripped and shredded slightly, he guessed that they weren't friendly. He signaled for the trailing 2 to take up positions next to the building opposite the rest of their team and waited 20 seconds. He saw the 2 others make it, then signaled guns hot.
"Hands where we can see them!" Tim yelled out!
Right as he yelled that, the 'person' started running straight for him... FAST! Tim had barely enough time to scream out "FIRE" Before the thing plowed into him at top speed.
Tim caught a glimpse as it toppled into him. Pale, greenish skin, with red pupils. It's mouth was spraying foam and saliva everywhere. But the worst part was the legs. It was as if it had tried to peel its own skin off! It was bleeding and peeling and had puss coming down from it too!
He took all of this in as the body slammed into him at what felt like 80 miles per hour. He felt it shudder a couple times, then it sat up and opened it's mouth, revealing blue stained teeth. Suddenly, it threw itself at his stomach! Tim rolled, but it didn't matter, pieces of the creatures head were all over his lap before he'd even moved. Tim looked at where the bullet must've been shot from, and saw Frant holding his rifle with clenched white knuckles

"Thanks", Tim said slowly while picking himself up from where he was on the ground.
"Calling in support from all heavy gunners", Tim said into the walkie-talkie.
"But sir, we took out the one, we don't need them now." Stephen Davis said.
Tim turned and looked at each man, but stopped on Christian Potters.
The boy had the look of a terrified 5 year old that just had a nightmare.
"Potters, what's wrong?" Tim asked sternly.
"Well sir, there are 2 things, o...one, it...took... 6 shots to take that thing down." He said.
"Then you must've have shot the legs or something." Tim said turning.
"No sir, each went through the chest where the heart would've been.”
Tim turned and looked at the kid who was staring over Tim's shoulder at a distance.
"Then he must've been wearing body armor, now get yourself together kid." He said.
"Let's hope that's not the case sir", He whispered softly.
Tim turned to see Bravo team, consisting of 20 more kids come up.
He turned back, "Why is that Potters?"
"Well, sir, they're coming..." Potters whispered above the wind.
Tim turned slowly around, and finally saw what potters had been watching.

An Army of ripped shirted creatures were coming at them from 2 miles away, and they were running full speed.

Thanks, Zilex. I see that you're an owner of a movie company. Maybe we could turn this into a movie?
