I'm building a custom computer, and I don't know what power supply to get (I need to know the wattage of the other components.) Any help? (Exact names copied and pasted so you can easily look them up)
GRAPHICS CARD -------------------- EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti FPB (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card (from NewEgg)
MOTHERBOARD ------------------ ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS (from NewEgg)
RAM ------------------ G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11D-8GBSR (from NewEgg)
PROCESSOR ----------------- AMD FD8120FRGUBOX FX-8120 Processor - Eight Core, 8MB L3 Cache, 8MB L2 Cache, 3.10GHz (4.00GHz Max Turbo), Socket AM3+, 125W, Fan, Unlocked, Retail (from CompUSA/TigerDirect)
HARD DRIVE ----------------- Seagate ST1000DM003 Barracuda 1TB Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA 6Gb/s (from CompUSA/TigerDirect)
DISC DRIVE ---------------- ASUS Black 12X BD-ROM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA Internal Blu-ray Drive Model BC-12B1ST/BLK/B/AS - OEM (from NewEgg)
CASE --------------- COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (from NewEgg)
I may or may not add an SSD later on, and I will also probably get extra fans for the case. |

| 800 will be fine for very nearly anything, and you may not even want that. More is better than less! |

| But considering higher-wattage power supplies are usually more expensive, I'd like to know a safe amount to have without getting a ton of extra. I already know the processor is 125W. |

| I started planning one quite a while ago, but I realized I was going way overboard so I decided to step down a little. |

I wanted a full panoramic display with a cool table containing the pc inside the table - that way I could see my pc do it's thing while there is a free heater as the heat dissipates over the table, and no leg obstruction.

I'm just going with a 600W. Though I'm debating over which processor I should get:
AMD HDT45TWFGRBOX Phenom II X6 1045T Processor - Six Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 3MB L2 Cache, 2.70GHz, Socket AM3, 95W, Fan, Retail
or
AMD FD8120FRGUBOX FX-8120 Processor - Eight Core, 8MB L3 Cache, 8MB L2 Cache, 3.10GHz (4.00GHz Max Turbo), Socket AM3+, 125W, Fan, Unlocked, Retail
Both from CompUSA/TigerDirect
Anyone wanna help me pick? |

Why ask us? The FX-8120 has a higher clock and more cores.
I wouldn't go with a 600 power supply.
For my computer I built I got a 750w supply for 20 pounds. I think that is cheap. I also changed the fan for 13 pounds. Still cheap though. |

| I know the FX-8120 is better, but it's $60 more and I don't know if it'd be overkill or not. |

| It is better. Get it. I have the FX-6100 and it is great. The HDD is the only thing that really lets people down on speed. |

| Actually, I'm just going to wait on an SSD. I don't really want to spend $100+ more for something that only increases loading speed. |

Every time my father makes a custom computer there are problems.
Try 1: Motherboard-Hard disk problems (turnt out to be a sorta test version of Asus's new motherboard :( ) Try 2: Unknown bluescreening (idk) Try 3 (current): RAID initialization problems (Due to Bios)
I don't reccomend making your own. Also, go cheap and you're bound to find problems. I'd spend more money on cooling, power supplys, essentials etc. not just fast fast fast stuff
And get a hard disk not SSD, hard disks work, SSDs deteriorate over time |

'something that only increases loading speed.'
The loading speed of every component of your computer. All file transfers. I was going to buy an SSD but somebody bought it first D:< |

The better processor also has moar cache.
Y u no intel?
Y u no 1 TB SSD?
600 watt should be plenty, unless the gpu eats liek 500 w which i doubt.

'And get a hard disk not SSD, hard disks work, SSDs deteriorate over time'
... YOU ARE SERIOUSLY TELLING ME BUYING A HDD IS A BETTER CHOICE AND AN SSD? WHO ARE YOU????
You have to defragment HDDs to keep them at full speed. Defragmenting an SSD is pointless because the seek time across the whole drive is less than one 1ms. |

"Y u no intel?"
He probably doesn't feel like spending $1300 on a processor when he can spend $350 on one with pretty much the exact same specs. |

"And get a hard disk not SSD, hard disks work, SSDs deteriorate over time"
I don't know where you heard this, but wherever you did, they're overly exaggerating it. Any form of electronic media deteriorates over time. HDDs motors slow down or break, and the magnetic fields used to store data are really only semi-permanent (sure, it might take a long time before the data begins to fade, but it still happens). SSDs, on the other hand, do not have motors or really any mechanical components that could break, and they have incredibly fast read speeds. HDDs are more susceptible to breaking due to shock, while an SSD could withstand more shock before breaking. Magnets can break your HDD, they most likely won't break your SSD. The biggest downside to an SSD in comparison to an HDD is cost, really. |

SOLUTION:
500GB-ish drive for data, videos, popcorn, music, etc 30-60GB SSD strictly for your OS and drive speed dependant programs |

"Y u no intel?"
...
Intel Core i7-3960X ----------------------- -6 cores -15MB L3 cache -1.5MB L2 cache -3.3GHz (3.9 max turbo) -130W -No fan -$1,049.99
AMD FX-8120 ----------------------- -8 cores -8MB L3 cache -8MB L2 cache -3.1GHz (4.0 max turbo -125W -With fan -$159.99
Let's see...the AMD is overall better than the Intel...at almost a tenth of the cost. |
