Few people realize the magnitude of suffering in the captive fish industry—a $300 million worldwide "hobby" responsible for the annual capture of more than 20 million fish, 12 million corals, and millions of other types of marine life.
At least 95 percent of the gentle saltwater fish sold in pet shops have been cruelly ripped from their natural homes. Trappers douse coral reefs with poison in order to stun the fish for easy capture—half the affected fish die painfully on the reef, and 40 percent of survivors die before they reach an aquarium. It hurts the reefs to.
PETCO sells 439 species of saltwater animals, almost all of whom were stolen from their natural habitats. For each animal displayed for sale on PETCO's shelves, nine other individual animals were cruelly captured and died before even reaching the store.
Don't deny it, that's crualty and you know it, how would you like it if you were a fish and then you were doused with poison and then kidnapped, and you had a good chance of dieing?
Exactly, you wouldn't like it, so don't allow it to be done to fish, I got this from PETA. |

| I do agree, it is cruel, I do support this, but I still believe in eating meat, that is the natural order, but torturing animals isn't right. |

@king I think fishing is right, as long as you put the meat to good use, or put the fish back in the water, relatively unharmed. But if this is true, it needs to stop, I doubt when you fish you douse fish with poison, causing alot of enviromental damage. |

@BTL That doesn't change the fact that it's wrong to poison fish and destroy reefs, you may not support everything PETA does but you can still take a stand on what is wrong. |

| I agree they should stop poisoning them and I don't really agree with keeping them as pets but I could never stop eating meat. |

| They don't "Poison" the enviroment. Yes people do take fish from their homes but they don't die like that nobody uses poison. Fish die from lack of air and acclimation during shipping processing from ammonia and nitrite spikes which is natural. If they poisoned the enviroment to make capturing easy it would ban people from touching the water in the ocean as poison don't go away or disolve naturally. |

Um... I think was can all agree the animals look better in their natural enviroment... I have 3 saltwater aquariums, 1 reef, 1 peacock mantis, and a 2 gallon that I use for quarentine purposes. |

| The only thing I would get all mad about is all the stupid glowfish. Glowfish are MUTATED zebra danios. People mutated them using artifical foods and lighting to mutate the fish with their colors. Now some tetras are being affected as well and the danio population is decreasing from the increase of mutant glowing danios. |

I don't agree with PETA at all but most people don't use poison and like metr0id said poison doesn't dissolve naturally so we wouldn't be allowed in water.

we have a PETA supporter here.
The saltwater fish at PETCO were bred in captivity, If you have seen the show "tanked" then you'd know. PETA makes up these things, don't listen to them. |
