I can't decide.
I can already play guitar, so learning bass would be easy, I guess. But drums are totally different from guitar, so it'd be a nice challenge to learn them. Plus, I don't want to get bored with a bass because it's too similar to the guitar.
Ugh, I dunno.
Price doesn't really matter. I'm planning on getting a job very soon, so I can just save up then. In fact, at one point I will probably have both instruments at once. But for now, I just want to decide which to get first.
Ideas, advice, comments? |

| Drums are so much more fun than a bass guitar IMO. |

Ha. I play both. One isn't more "fun" than the other.
Let's look: Drums take time to learn to play well, you have to have good rhythm, but once you've taken the time to learn how to play really well, you can have fun freestyling.
Bass (I am a bassist mainly) takes, again, time to learn, and is different from the guitar in string-playing, and style. Bassists who play likes guitarists sound no good. Once you're good at bass, you drive the entire band. Plus not many people play bass, so you could get hired in many bands as a sub or fill in.
Consider.

I like both instruments, but I recommend trying the drums first.

I'd say drums.

| Drums first. then bass later. Both keep the band in sync. |

Drum set. Then when you're ready, get a bass.

| Drums is one of the easiest instruments to learn. |

| I recommend learning both. If you can play guitar, bass is easily self taught. You can get a squier bullet bass for under $119. And drums, for one, aren't nearly as easy as people say. Playing drums with a band is very complicated, as you have to play at a very certain level so you don't overpower the whole song. But they're a very fun instrument. I play guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. Whoever says "drums are easy," try to play Rock n Roll by Led Zeppelin on drums. Both instruments are very useful to know if you plan on joining a band. Get a good drum set though, preferablly Tamas, Pearls, Gretshes. Just PM me if you want more pros and cons of each instrument xD Hope I could help :3 |

| Drums are the second easiest instruments ever IMO, the first being piano. The only hard part about playing drums is getting some rudiments down, like flam drags, triple stroke double stroke (open) rolls, ratamacues, dragadiddles, etc. Also, getting used to traditional grip can take some getting used to. But seriously, drums aren't hard at all really, especially playing jazz. |

I think most people posting here don't really know how to play either...bass is really underrated. You can't be looking for attention with bass. But it is fun, and you just need to know some guitar basics to begin learning.

Or, maybe, they would rather have a drum set....

Drum sets are fun to start. But if you want to be really good at them, you have to put in commitment. My band's drummer has been playing fro 6 years. He's extremely talented.

Goodness, late reply.
I know most of you suggested drums first, but... Apparently my future bandmates are more in need of a bassist. So I guess, /for now/, I will get a bass. But later on I will get drums. Honestly, I appreciate all of the insights and whatnot.
Thanks. ^^ |
