Again.
I think you've had enough of my discussions about my nooby 2D game..
But I want to talk about one thing more (well maybe more, once I advance on the game)

So, explosion-kind particle effects.
The first one on my mind was just boring and simple pre-made textures.
The other one was first drawing a circle on the middle of the explosion, after that draw x amount of other circles to random direction from the circle x units a way from the first circle and so on for x times.

So for the second I was thinking of creating some timer-kind detecting system for what's going on. For like after x amount of milliseconds after the other step it could move to the step 2 which is creating the other circles and so on.
A loop for every frame would have the control of these. it would basically loop through every explosion and check if they can do the next step.

Oh.

Speaking of which, I had working collision detection in my Love2d game for like a month but it seemed to fail but then I discovered why.

Notepad++ was using 2 tabs again :( I had 2 destinations to save and I kept saving to the wrong one.

How noobish of me.

On topic,
Texture explosions can be nicer than a whole bunch of circles if they both look good and are a bit random.

Loads of the same explosion texture is ugly.

I agree, and when it comes to the texture making.. I'm really bad :PP
But the circles could have some explosion template texture on them.
Like when they're rotated they would look like randomized textures.

Prehaps make 2 slightly different textures.

Each explosion has the 2 overlaping and slightly transparent.

It's random which is on top and which underneath, and rotation is also random...oh, and they could have a small random offset, like 2 pixels up and -4 to the side.

That'd be better.


Oh and CandyManiac is a great graphical designer, I recommend him if you're not that good :P

The random direction kinda like does it, like it creates a direction from a random angle and adds it x times (or random) to the center position.

My main target was to create a playable game.. It's pretty much done so I'm just adding features like the map edit with load&save and explosions (with terrain destruction.)

And indeed I want it to be a little unrealistic.
The current characters are drawn by me and they look a bit cartoonish so it fits to the style :P

Idk C++ but something along the equivalent lines of this RBX.Lua to C++
