I, too, am concerned for my personal safety and that of my family's.
I've been to DC before. What do you want to know? (No, I do not know any special way of getting into the Whitehouse. If you're going to assassinate the president, you're on your own buddy)

| Actually, It's like a three day tour, Something extra from school. I've just been wondering if the Washington monument is open again, I believe it was closed due to earthquakes. |

As far as I'm concerned, it still is. It still has the cracks in it. They haven't necessarily filled them yet.
So, I don't think so. But I can guarantee you this: It is very tall. I think you'd enjoy DC actually.

| Out of everything I'm interested in seeing the cold war era jets in the Smithsonian. There's something about lingering death that intrigues me. |

I agree. There's no experience like death hanging over head... literally, for that matter.
If that's what you wish to see, then you'll quite like the Smithsonian.

Funny, I started C&Ging on my flight to DC.
I love DC.
Hazy Center > Air and Space Museum
I also went onto the House floor, in a VIP tour. |

I live near DC, just north.
If you need a shotgun, just yell.
The earthquakes were pretty odd, we aren't used to them.
But yeah, my bookshelf almost collapsed.

If you want to go the Air and Space museum, don't. It's a crappy little exhibit of ten or so things they could fit.
It's the tour for a bored group of high school students.
The Hazy center, is FAR superior. The Hazy center has a full space shuttle, the Enola G@y(why do I have to censor an aircraft name), an SR-71 Blackbird, and a bunch of other aircraft, and rocketry exhibits.
Yeah, we got a VIP tour of the capitol, just because my aunt and uncle worked and had some contacts with a non-profit for Hispanics, who had some ties to Congress, and one Representative in particular. Had I really asked, I could have got a great picture, of me in front of the Speaker's chair, and the American flag that drapes the House floor. Sadly, I didn't, so I have no proof.
Still have two tickets to the house and senate galleries, though.
Dulles airport, is BY FAR the worst airport I have ever been to. If a terrorist wanted to kill people, he could detonate in the mass of people that is called the "security line". I wonder how Reagan Airport, is, though.
Oh yes, the best hotel is the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City. That's where I stayed.
