Because Boeing asked.

If you say pi, I will find you...

...And I...

...Will give you a nice pat on the back and say "Good try, but Euler's Theorem and integration are more important, in my opinion."

It depends. There are so many branches of mathematics and so many things that can be applied to real world situations.

imagine mathematics without the concept of nothing

math as we know it could not exist without the concept of nothing

You put up a good point, Boeing, but actually I think the most important mathematical object would be a domain.

0, while half-concept-half-number, is still in the real domain. A domain is essentially the basis of all numbers, whether they are real, imaginary, or complex. We can't come up with the concept of a number to describe nothing without something that first describes a number itself.

But numbers aren't required to be abstractions. I can make terms for numbers of rocks I have in a pile and those are just as valid as an abstract concept of a number.

Those are still numbers, are they not?

Aljebra anyone? or geometry. I'll go with geometry, because everything is geometry, is it not?

"Aljebra"

It's spelled Algebra, just saying.

And no, not all math is directly related to geometry. A lot of mathematical concepts aren't.

My favorite thing is the theory that stats all numbers are simply estimates, and for example, the number "2" can actually be something equal to "1.(infinate)01" to "2.9(infinate)9"

@Supermario

He puts up a good argument. I disagree with him, but geometry is somewhat important.

Well, I mean, I'll never find a practical use for proofs or all these theorems, but everything in common reality that we deal with every day is a shape which can be measured, manipulated, and analyzed. Geometry is quite literally all around us.

You are correct in your argument that not all math is directly related to geometry, but a lot of it is - specifically, vectors. You would be amazed at how many concepts you can describe with vectors.

Also, I have the longest posts ever.

Anyway, I think the most important thing in mathematics is the concept of quantity.

@Boeing

Without the concept of quantity, could you really have the concept of nil?
