And it isn't because of The Decision.
It is because we, as fans, love to see the type of player who lives, breathes, and eats basketball. We love the type of player whose world revolves around basketball. We love the type of player who puts the team first. Fans like the who worked his butt of to get to the NBA and didn't have it handed to him. NBA fans want to be able to relate to the players, as hard as that may seem, being that most fans are living in the middle class and most NBA players are living in the upper class. They don't want ego.
So, to summarize what a loved NBA player looks like: Obsessed with basketball, a work-a-holic, a team player, relateable, and humble.
Does that sound like LeBron James to you?
I am not questioning his work-ethic, but when was the last time you heard anybody praise him for his work ethic?
The thing is, LeBron James has had everything handed to him. He was called King James and was seen as the next MJ before he even stepped onto the NBA hardwood.
And when was the last time he was considered a team player? He has never been. Remember what he said when he first came to Cleveland? He said: "My ultimate goal is winning championships."
Seems harmless right? That is what every NBA player, scratch that, ever professional player over ever sport, wants to accomplish.
But read the rest of the quote: “I understand that me going down as one of the greats will not happen until I, you know, win a championship.”
For all you people believing that he wanted to win a championship for Cleveland, your wrong.
He wanted to win a championship for his own benefit.
That is not a team-first attitude. If he was team-first he would have said he wanted to win a championship so that the Cavs could be seen as a great basketball team and so that the Cavs could show that Cleveland is a good sports city.
Do you really think that he is humble? He refers to himself as King James in texts he sends (http://goo.gl/ZbQx8). He hosts a 1-hour television special to announce where he will be playing (okay, maybe The Decision did have something to do with it).
And finally, can you relate yourself to LeBron James? I sure can't. |

Well for me...
It wasn't the decision. It was the arrogance promising 7+ championships in that c/o/c/k/y way of his. Along saying that this will be easy.
If he said "This won't be easy, there are a lot of great teams in the NBA that want the same thing we do, witch is a championship. Wade, Bosh and I all hope to have multiple times winning one. |

This is what me and my dad (mostly my dad) have always had a problem with.
It's not the fact that he left, it's the way he left. |

>scores tons of points a game >puts the team on his back >gets the blunt of the criticism despite the fact his team is useless for the most part >question his work ethic
and yes, james wants to win championships. he wants to be great. which NBA player doesn't? is he the bad guy for straight up saying it? i'm sure that a lot of players are as arrogant, if not more, arrogant than LBJ but don't get the amount of flak he does |

| tato, I said that I wasn't questioning it. I am saying when was the last time you saw/heard anyone praise his work ethic? And yea, I know every professional athlete (and every athelete, for that matter) wants to become the best. But he wants to do it just for that purpous only, which all goes back to himself. |

| lack of praise is criticism you know. and i'm sure lebron loves basketball. no one plays as hard as he does in order to get to the finals all the time. have you seen how many times he's cried? |

| So then he is being criticsed for his work ethic. And if he really cared about basketball then where is the energy at when it is needed? |

and wade is hurt. even though he isn't telling anybody it. it is obvious that he is. |

there are five people on the court. lebron is only one of them. look at the other four before you look at him. he played pretty much the entire second half, and pretty much the entire first half. you cannot blame him because his teammates suck
and wade bricked 50 shots in the other three series, and in last year's finals too. how long has he been hurt, NBA insider? |

@tato The people who have a passion for something are the ones who motivate others. Was LeBron James motivating anybody? And by the way, Bosh showed up last night aswell. and while I can't. Wasn't he the one who carried the Cavs to the Finals? So that role shouldn't be something that LBJ is a stranger to. All I ask is to show some leadership. Some fire. I want to see him to atleast get after his teammates if they screw up, that would show me that he cares.
Tato, everyone knows Wade is hurt. The Heat are just hiding it.
and Wade was the reason why the 2011 Finals went to 6 games instead of 4 or 5. He was the guy for miami during those finals. |

he does show all of that. he is a leader, and he does care, but the problem is that he carries the team on his back. it's hard to motivate your teammates when they're relying on you to do everything
and that's all speculation. i'm sure wade wouldn't play 42 minutes if he was hurt
and no, wade bricked everything |

Very well spoken.
I agree 100%. That is why people like Kevin Durant so much. He has dedicated everything he has to the game of basketball, and mastering his craft. He has supreme work ethic, and you get the general sense that he wants to win a title for himself, his teammates, his city, and the fans.
@Spicy
You just said in another thread, that Lebron James doesn't want a ring, meaning he doesn't want a championship. You are very contradictory. |

There ya go.

please read more closely pizzaboy (oh wait he's a ravens fan)
the implication is that lebron's motivation is not for the ring. he wants to play ball. a ring is secondary |

You say Lebron is not playing for a ring. Now you say he is playing for a ring.
Which is it?
Obviously he is playing to win a championship. Why would he leave Cleveland if he didn't want a ring?! He took less money to play in Miami, so don't say that.
He has sad thousands of times that he wants a championship!!!!
