Oh, well, hello there! Recently, I happened to make the rather “irritating” mistake of assuming that people read everything a thread has to offer. In doing so, my last thread conveyed the wrong message since everyone thought skimming was a nifty idea. So, here I am again, but with a thread that’s noticeably longer and goes into more detail with the water-hat relation thing.
So, to start things off, what’s the problem? The problem’s actually very simple. ROBLOX recently released water as a material for terrain. Water allows some materials to float, some to sink, and some to float a few units below the surface. Well, guess what? The hats on ROBLOXian figures are rendered in game as plastic, thus weighing a ROBLOXian figure down if he/she decides to wear hats. It’s no “big deal”, but a person who’s wearing no hats can jump into the water and simply float there with his/her head above the water, whilst a person wearing hats will usually sink a good few units before hovering there. This is irritating. This also affects how they swim. A person wearing no hats: when they stop swimming underwater, they automatically float up to the surface. A person wearing hats: when they stop swimming underwater, they usually stay there. Seriously irritating.
And, what do you know? That’s when my idea comes into play! My idea is to either make hats made of wood (despite the irony and whatnot) so that they do little to affect the player’s swimming abilities, or to make hats weightless in general so they DON’T affect the player at ALL.
While the latter sounds much more reasonable, it “could” potentially be hard to introduce into the game. It would be neat, no doubt, but I’m sure the Staff Team has better things to do at the moment. The former is a much faster alternative which really would do the same thing (or close to), so that’s the one in the spotlight at the moment. Yes, it will be rather awkward to have hats made of wood, but since the meshes have textures over them, it doesn’t change the appearance at all. Nice, no?
So, yeah, for those of you who skim or post “tl;dr” on everything, here’s the general idea: make hats weightless so all ROBLOXians swim the same.
Cheers.

| Sup bro. I havent acually tested water for myself but this is gonna be hard. they will need to update every hat, and make sure every person gets the new type of hat without accedentally forcing them to buy it agian. limiteds are okay but what about guardia in exile or something with even MORE purchases. big problem and could take years to complete. |

I guess I read the other post wrong. I thought you were suggesting making hats affect the swimming. Support in making them weightless.

@grantox
Well, I'm assuming that all hats are simply put into game as a brick then applied to with a mesh. If not, we DO seriously have a problem. :|
Thanks for pointing that out.
@ChickenAndDumplings
It's probably because I write my stuff weird. ;) The vocabulary usually seems incoherent, so I don't blame you. Thanks for the support, though. :D

| Darks, it must be a bit annoying to have me post on every one of your S&I, but I once again stand in amazement of every idea you have posted on so far! |

| Support, I hate it when I let my hats in the water and they just float, I also recommend sword fighting in water, it is fun, you can control the direction for every slice, it is fun, also use the sword to stop yourself. |

*claps* Support. I've noticed that if you do a waterfall, that leads NOWHERE, if you have hats you fall down and die right away. But, I will test it WITHOUT hats - and I *BET* you that I would just float there and not die at all. Or possibly I'd survive longer. |

I just tested it. With hats = I fell through and died WITHOUT hats = I floated there, perfectly fine |
