Plugin terrain does, rather a lot.
Custom terrain depends on size, but it won't lag as much as plugin anyways. |

Thanks for your... varying... answers folks!
So what I think I got out of it is:
Adds Lag Not as much as the same amount of bricks Custom Lag < Plugin Lag Peope who don't lag are of no use to me (just kidding, but I thought that was a pretty funny comment) |

I make whole maps out of terrain voxels, and don't experience much lagg at all. My maps are free so pm me and I will set up aprils map temporarilly, This map has buildings made of terrain and uses lots of voxels. Marchs map has plenty of terrain as well but not as many buildings. Ask me to set up either of these maps to see if they cause you lagg. |

| I'll finalize this by answering that Terrain does cause lag, as does everthing else, just a *much* smaller amount. Because of how Roblox made Terrain only render the sides that are shown, the game considers it a single part, even if there are a possible 16+ million possible separate Voxels. |

Thanks Scac but I've got my own place in progress... it's all good.
But terrain question, how do I change its color? I read something about a brush, but only brush I can find [that works] is the one for height. But Road and the other tool don't work for me. |

Yes, terrain can cause a lot of lag, depending on your computer. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: 1) Quick to make if you aren't picky 2) Easy to edit using plugin tools
Cons: 1) Causes lag on most computers because of the large amount of bricks needed 2) Takes a long time to load (same reason as Number 1) 3) Will NOT show up in Workspace or Properties windows 4) Cannot be moved 5) Usually, getting that "perfect" look will take a long time 6) Certain features made without terrain cannot be reproduced with the plugin
My point is, using the terrain plugin can be quicker than designing your own terrain, but it causes lag and has less variety than custom made terrain. |

Actually, if you read my previous post... No.
"Causes lag on most computers because of the large amount of bricks needed"
No, they all act as a single brick because it only renders the outermost sides.
"Takes a long time to load (same reason as Number 1)"
Only if your computer is extremely slow.
"Will NOT show up in Workspace or Properties windows"
Terrain does show up in Workspace, and does have a Properties selection, although limited. |

won't work for me for some reason. I've tried, but it won't select.
I'm doing this in edit, by the way. |

Yeah, my terrain tools 'broke' the other day while playing with water. I just restarted ROBLOX and all was fine. |

It does create lag...and I have a fast computer.
I guess I was wrong about it not showing up...but what I meant is that you can't move it or change the look easily because you can't select any individual bricks all at once...you have to use the tools, which takes longer.
It does render it as a lot of individual bricks, and it does use every single brick, not just the edges. If you have played a game with it, you'll know what I mean. |

No it does not. For the last time, I *know* Terrain does not render the sides that do not show. I *know* this because for one, if you go into Edit mode and move the camera into the Terrain, you can see through it, if it rendered each side separately you could not. And it says so in the blog.
Terrain does create lag, every thing you insert into a place does, but it does not creat a lot of it (in comparison to anything else that size), so it's barely noticable.
If you *are* experiencing lag in a place with only Terrain, that's your computer. Because me and everyone else are fine. |
