Why do you troll threads that don't meet your standards? I mean, come on! What do you gain from this? What's it going to give you? Pride? Does it boost your self-esteem? Does it make you feel better to bash others' work? It may not be hard work, but it's still work.

I'm going to say this once: I look down on it. It's one thing to watch trolls from other forums come here and troll, but it's another to watch those RPers I know and respect completely wipe out someone's RP by trolling it.

If you truly respect me, do me a favor and give them constructive criticism. Support them, encourage them. They aren't going to learn anything if you troll them, besides the fact that you're disrespectful and that you aren't, by any means, supportive.

If you don't respect me... well, then, troll away. I only ask those who do to stop.

Oh, oh! And those sympathy threads you make? ["Ooooh, poor me, surrounded by newbies who can't meet my expectations! Why won't they improve?"] Nothing's going to change if you continue trolling them.

This is not directed at everyone who makes those threads; you'll know if I'm addressing you.

Oh, and yes-- I've made the same mistake in the past. But I've changed my perspective.

@Giraffe,

Probably. But I'm willing to negotiate with the complainers.

Tai, a word of advice.

Instead of tackling them all at once you should try and single them out but I don't mean publicly but maybe a PM, a more direct message is more likely to straighten them out.

@Tha,

Well, as true as that may be, I figured this would be easier. I'll take that into consideration, but, for now, I'll leave it at this. Besides, I want everyone to know what I think of this.

Amusement, mostly.

If the RP is something like "monster high", then I don't care to be honest.

Oh, I've tried. It yielded no results, I just got called a troll.

"Support them, encourage them."

so treat them like children or something

They'll learn that the threads they make are hated by the RP community.

There is no way to stop trolling. People have tried, to no avail. All we can do is ignore it and move on.

I've been doing the 'single them out and drop the hammer method' for a while.
We need both ends to get it adequately.
Personally, I'd like it if the mods pinned this, were I a mod here I'd do it.

Truth be told, the local atmosphere has become, well, prickly.

But none that will make me laugh as much as him tearing apart bad threads. He said he does it because it makes him, and other people, laugh, not because he wants to be famous.

Taiwolf-

I agree.

However, let me provide a view on the subject.

This is the internet. This is not real life. "You" are simply another name and another avatar to everybody else out there.

If something comes up that you can mock, why wouldn't you? You'd get some fun out of it, they don't know who you are, and you're never going to actually meet them! After all, what's the harm in jabbing a little fun at something that is stupid in the first place?

Let me tell you. People are disconnected. They don't act as they might if this were real life. Nobody that they really know will think less of them. They get some fun out of it, why should they stop?

Because it's human nature, people get "a rise" out of the problems of others. If they can tease others, they get their fun, especially if they can get a reaction out of it. It's the same problem as bullying in schools. People entertain themselves by tormenting others. However, this is the internet. There's nobody to get them in trouble. There's nobody to think less of them. And there are MILLIONS of opportunities to do it.

They do it because they have fun. If there's no incentive to stop, why will they? All you can do it appeal to their conscience, their sense of right and wrong. Which is what you have done.

That's my wall of text for you. Enjoy. :/

--That's still a problem.

"If the RP is something like "monster high", then I don't care to be honest."

--Well, I do. This forum has no restrictions, except those that are listed in the rules. Monster High, Pokemon, Naruto, Vampires, The Hunger Games... they are as appropriate as your own. Just remember that this isn't your forum. The newbies are more than welcomed to post what they please.

"Oh, I've tried. It yielded no results, I just got called a troll."

--So you're admitting that you're willing to give up so easily? Come on, if you can type out a full word-wall, you can influence the newbies that you're trying to help. Who's to say they won't listen?

"so treat them like children or something

why"

--Encouragement isn't for children, and children only. Encouragement is what motivates a lot of people to meet their goals.

"They'll learn that the threads they make are hated by the RP community. "

--Implying that I hate them, in which case I don't

I've given constructive criticism before. It worked once. ONCE. Out of the COUNTLESS TIMES I told people what they were doing wrong.
If you constantly saved criminals from death, only to have them rob you, wouldn't you eventually just leave the criminals to their fate?
Have you not heard the saying "Doing the same thing and expecting different results is insanity?"

I don't hate the rookies either, what I see is a diamond in the rough, someone who needs the careful chiseling and polish that experience provides.

Except when ever you chisel said diamond, you realize it's just glass. Really bad glass. That shatters all over you and cuts your hand and other bad things like that.

"--That's still a problem."

Yes, but hey... if a thread isn't going to yield anything except "i dodge the bullet and noscope you in the face", or "omg the prom is gonna be soooooooooooo awsum", then why not troll it?

"--Well, I do. This forum has no restrictions, except those that are listed in the rules. Monster High, Pokemon, Naruto, Vampires, The Hunger Games... they are as appropriate as your own. Just remember that this isn't your forum. The newbies are more than welcomed to post what they please."

Even though those threads are complete garbage and are stupid?

Newbies ruin this place.

"--So you're admitting that you're willing to give up so easily? Come on, if you can type out a full word-wall, you can influence the newbies that you're trying to help. Who's to say they won't listen?"

I tried to help them on several occasions. They called me trolls and told me to "get off their forum" (ITS A THREAD DAMMIT. That is one of the things I hate about new people. They refuse to learn that its called a thread).

--Thank you.

"However, let me provide a view on the subject.

This is the internet. This is not real life. "You" are simply another name and another avatar to everybody else out there."

--Internet or not, those people you're bashing- they know you're a living, breathing person and that you mean what you say. It's no different from saying it to their faces. These are your thoughts on the situation, and it doesn't matter if you express them verbally or through the computer. Oh, and I know I'm just another person out there. But that doesn't mean others don't share my thoughts. I'm not important, but my thoughts on the matter are... to those who share the same beliefs.

"If something comes up that you can mock, why wouldn't you? You'd get some fun out of it, they don't know who you are, and you're never going to actually meet them! After all, what's the harm in jabbing a little fun at something that is stupid in the first place?"

--Why wouldn't I? Because it's cruel. Those threads you troll were made by other individuals who put their time and effort into making them. It's just like going to a building game, and deleting someone's progress.

"Let me tell you. People are disconnected. They don't act as they might if this were real life. Nobody that they really know will think less of them. They get some fun out of it, why should they stop?"

--Again, it's cruel. Mark my words, I think less of those who troll these threads. It may be fun for the troller, but not for the person who made the thread.

"Because it's human nature, people get "a rise" out of the problems of others. "

--I think less of them. And others might, too, but they just haven't expressed it as I have. And, there may not be anyone to get them in trouble, but, they can ruin their reputations.

'They do it because they have fun. If there's no incentive to stop, why will they? All you can do it appeal to their conscience, their sense of right and wrong. Which is what you have done."

--I probably can't change anything. But I just want people to know that they are losing my respect by doing this.

"That's my wall of text for you. Enjoy. :/"

--I enjoyed it thoroughy. Thank you. Sorry if I offended you in any way. I tend to do that sometimes. .-.

Let's face it. Roblox has been taken over by hordes of 6-11 year olds. Many of them float over this way, and they start their threads, or post in other threads.

If we're trying to help them, It's like we're a single swordsman facing the entire armies of evil by ourselves. Despite what we're seeing in these threads around us, we aren't going to last long.

LEt me tell you something CommanderOfGames
I started off as one of those instant headshotting noobs.

See where I am now?

I have participated in countless threads, I have more than 15,000 posts, I am respected by my fellow veterans.

Sure they start off as ignorant, but the only way the can leave that behind is experience, which can only be gained from trying, whether the fail or succeed.

However, killing someone's hope of success means they learn nothing from the artificial failure that ensues.

IF you have a problem with someone's actions on your thread, you have the right to kick them off of it. However, on someone else's thread you do not, this includes the threads of those rookies.

If you have a problem with them, ignore them. If you can't do that, you are not the type of person who should be on a public access forum.

Okay, basically the inevitable is that we can’t rid of trolling. Of course, that also goes with we can’t get rid of ‘bad’ threads. Trolling doesn’t actually help anyone, gets a few laughs but in the end it gets nobody anywhere. There’s a petty argument at best and then everything is done, the world continues as normal.

As I said before, the people of RP grew up without remembering where they started from. Those horrible first baby step RPs that everyone loves so dearly. When you join a site you plan to stay you need a beginning, something soft to help land your feet on. There are few who are prepared to jump into a very serious RP without any experience.

Truth is people grow up. They do, people just don’t give them the time. Remember when a RP nobody liked would just fall without any unjust words? I do at one point, ashamed to say this in past tense.
Really, what are we all doing?
Just sitting here, typing on our devices and telling people off for having fun. Because I suppose different people have superior ideas of fun, and that is obviously a fact.

[Actually, I don’t mind X’s trolling as much. The only thing that tips me is he posts the whole thing on that one thread. Really spams up the thing.]

Personally, I don't think there's a problem if the majority of the front page is occupied by threads created by newbies, or whatever you want to call them. We just make it out to be a problem, because we want to see RPs with potential, and only those sorts.

Even if that were the case, could we join them all? I wouldn't think so.

(mine wasn't a reply to your reply to my first post. If you follow that....)

You, sir, are then one of the few people who actually have said conscience. Bravo. I applaud you!

However, most people don't. That's what I was trying to say with my post. We can't do much to stem the tide of trollers or bad role players. All we can do is sit by and watch.

There's my pessimistic view for ya. Enjoy.
