I recently had an idea, and have been working on this, and have decided to officially reveal it here. It will become a massive first-person exploration based game. Everything is custom built by me, or a friend of mine. My friend does the scripting. The game uses classic sbuilding styles, so it will look simplistic. It would combine exploration with action elements. Players will look basic, and must spawn as game chooses.

Information
Title: Project Block
Style: Open World Exploration
Combat: Paintball Guns & Swords
Customization: Working Feature[Possibly Torso color change?]
Setting: Fantasy style open world
Quests: Working Feature
Capturable Objectives: Possible feature
Building: Working Feature

I may later add objectives to capture and different factions. This game would be different than other games like this because it won't be using terrain generator. It will combine modern and old building/scripting.

Stop flaming and falsely accusing. My game isn't an FPS aside from being first person. Players spawn at different points of the map and rarely meet up. I may even remove guns and make it just swords. You accuse me of being a fail, but let's think this through? Who's flaming on the forums? The fail. And it ain't me.

Cat08, this forum is for intelligent discussions about a person's game design, and to help with ideas for their game by giving suggestions and feedback.

It is not however a forum to flame people for their ideas, opinions, or for anything for that matter. If you disagree with them that's ok, then debate in a mature manner, or leave.

We have zero tollerance for ignorance here.


Anyways, forget about what Cat08 said, the idea does sound fun. Although I don't know what the point of it is, are there going to be NPC enemies to fight with if player-vs-player is going to be as uncommon as you say?

The large-map aspect is interesting though, I'd love to see and play it when it's complete.

Ninja, I'll be buildi via personal server, and I'll let you in. There will eventually be NPC villages giving quests etc. It won't be focused much on combat, but it will involve melee combat.

I was thinking about that, but then I figured I'd get accused of stealing. This won't look like minecraft much, anyway. The Block part is because blocks used to be your ordinary part.

Will it be brick by brick? Those are so hard to find. They actually look really good too!

I suggest being able to set traps. They should look like objects in the game.

More coopeative than PvP. I may implement a crafting system where objects would be picked up in NPC houses. You'd access an inventory, select objects and you'd get the tool. As for block by block, well, no. To a certain point. The castles are block by block. I may also implement a quest system, though I have no official details.

Also add in skills such as woodcutting, mining, fishing, etc.

I agree with Candy. I say you stay away from PvP and work on adding enemies. If you kill one you get XP and when you reach a certain amount of XP you level up. I say stay away from guns because a lot of games are based on guns, making games like that boring because they are so common.

I'm staying enemies because they ruin the key aspects of the game. AI enemies often suck, and wouldn't fit with the terrain of the game.

Hmm, nope. It's pretty simple to make AI enemies to fit with your game - just make it jump smartly when it approaches a block.

I probably won't invovle building into it. The main purpose of the game is first person exploration. Accept quests, kill other players[factions] and explore. People abuse building, and I cannot script aswell as some people, and would rather not spend time making safe building/AIs.
