Okay so there has been a lot of debate between the two. I prefer the AK due to the reliability and power. But lets look at the hard facts...
Reliability- Goes to the AK-47 Reason: The AK's designer Mr. Kalashnikov made the rifle to survive the conditions of Russia (as most of us know, a reliable rifle is important in harsh terrain)
Range Capabilities- M4 Reason: The M4 almost doubles the AK's range due to the lighter cartridge
Stopping Power- AK-47 Reason: Well this one is pretty simple, M4= 5.56 AK= 7.62. The heavier the bullet and higher the grain the more damage.
Mobility- M4 Reason: The rifle was a lot less, also 1 AK mag is equivalent to about 3 M4 magazines.
Mag weight- M4 Reason: The M4 standard issue magazine way 3 times less than the average AK mag.
Fatality potential- AK-47 Reason: The M4 makes a nice neat hole, in one end and out the other, the AK round is known to break apart inside the person. This is much more common with the 74 but is still prevalent with the AK. (Fatality potential and stopping power are not the same thing, stopping power is the ability to stop your enemy, fatality potential would be death from impact or after.)
Basically brute force and reliability or range and mobility. |

| Also when you disassemble an AK, when you put it back together you don't need to reengage the firing pin, it automatically snaps back into place. |

| The platform took off, you have everything from the simple AK-47 original wood stock, all the way up to the high end Romanian wire stock, fore grip, AK-74. |

| My father used to pick up AK's on the field all the time, he hammered the barrel on one and it still fired close to average. |

| The M4 is great if all external factors are great. The AK is good if the external conditions are piss poor. |

| As far as i know M4 has lighter recoil due to lighter ammunition allowing a soldier to pump more lead to their target. |

| With an AK, you only need 1 bullet. |

| Perhaps, but if the engagement distance is small being able to shoot alot is a good thing, by the way i thought AK has better range than M4 due to heavier bullet = loses less kinetic energy. |

No, M4 round is almost twice the AK engagement zone.
The AK has full auto, but semi will suffice. |

I hate when people compare the AK-47 and the M16A4 instead of the M4A1.
It's like comparing a shotgun to a sniper rifle. One's made for long range and precision the other is meant to destroy anything in-front of you. |

AK47 is a weapon intended for close combat battle. It even has similar sights to a revolver.
The M16 is a full sized rifle intended for mid-long range combat. |

The M1911 is the superior pistol, even though it was phased out of combat.
Obvious bias is obvious.

Notice how I said that they both are good in different scenarios? Bad external conditions=AK
Good external conditions=M4
It's like would you rather drive a Jeep or a Bentley. Off roading you want the jeep, for a casual stroll and everyday life, the Bentley. |

@Dr
You must have misinterpreted my post. I was pointing out I was obviously having bias towards the M1911. There are several other pistols I can name I could have chosen. The P-38, for example.
