@JulienDethurens Are you the sort of person who never uses commercial (and professional) software? That's like saying GIMP is better than Photoshop, Illustrator, or Fireworks. It's just not.
Visual Studio makes Eclipse scream like a little girl in fear. |

I'd use them if they were worth their cost, but considering there are free alternatives that are just as good or better...
Anyway, GIMP is not better than Illustrator of Fireworks because GIMP is not meant to replace Illustrator or Fireworks. However, GIMP _is_ better than Photoshop.
Beside, Photoshop is more-than-overpriced (like all Adobe's products). GIMP is free and just as good.

Huh.. what? It's the other way around, actually.. |

@myrkos What power does GCC have that the latest version of Visual Studio's compiler not have? |

@Prehistoricman
Code::Blocks is worse than both Visual Studio and Eclipse.
Why? Because it only supports, like, 2 languages... |

Almost full support for C++11, plus support for so many platforms/processors. I'm sure there are others but I don't remember them now. |

IDEs shouldn't be evaluated based on the number of languages they support. If so, then Qt Creator sucks, but in reality it's a really awesome IDE. |

@JulienDethurens >GIMP *is* better than Photoshop.
GIMP is ugly, that's one thing that's for sure. Photoshop has a pretty UI. |

Anywho, I'm going to head out and stop arguing for my side of the software industry. See you guys later. |

| Photoshop and After Effects are quite great. Perhaps they're a bit expensive but that's because they're for professionals and big companies. |

"GIMP is ugly, that's one thing that's for sure. Photoshop has a pretty UI."
That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard about GIMP.
That's called an opinion. The way the GIMP interface works actually makes it easier to use, even if it's uncommon and you need to get used to it.
Also, since version 2.8, there's a single window mode, so you have no excuse.
I've used both Photoshop and GIMP for quite some time, because I wasn't sure which I wanted to use (I had the possibility to get Photoshop for free, so the cost didn't matter at that moment, though I did take it into consideration). What I concluded was that GIMP was better. I found it to have all the features I need, but also to have a nicer interface.
What about you? Did you use both at least long enough to get used to both? No, of course that you didn't.

What's wrong with flame wars? Everyone acts like they're bad, but what's wrong with them? |
