Let's say you were the strongest person in the world.
You sit on a chair. While sitting you grip the sides of the chair, and lift upward as much as you can.
Why do you not levitate? |

You could easily lift someone sitting in a chair, but why can't you do the same for yourself?

Because without the ground you have no lower body support...

Because your legs are holding you to the ground. AKA: gravity.

@snow9450, What if you lift your legs off the ground as you pull?

You know what gravity is? If not, imagine there's a Jedi living in the center of the Earth, and he uses the force keep us on our feet.

Gravity doesn't make sense though. You can lift someone on the chair, because the forces you apply to the chair are stronger than gravity, yet if you do it yourself it will never happen. Why?

Because the force you pulled up would have to go somewhere.
So the force would be transferred to whatever you're touching with the most intense gravity (While you're in it's gravitational field) and it'll be transferred into the ground but if you transfer it into the chair, it'll basically cancel out all the energy you're expending on pulling up.
