Legend, this forum is for discussing game design, so posting TL;DR is purely spam as it doesn't add on to the conversation or is even relevent...

As for this method, seems a bit tedius and time consuming, but if it works for you then I'm in no position to say it's bad.

My method is a bit more born from experience opposed to your method which comes from a certain process of design.

As a kid I grew up with Lego, playing and building with it since I was very young, so I got an early 'feel' for building as I literally felt the bricks, could rotate the model in my hands and know what works/doesn't work.
Also because I joined in '08 when building tools were very basic compaired to today, I was always in building games practicing and perfecting my knowledge.

Because of this, I do that drawing method in my head, and I can perfectly picture what I'm building before it's even built. Although for larger places/buildings I do draw a loose-plan on paper to help me remember where things should go.

1. Don't use build tools.

2. ...are you describing classical style? Your instructions aren't the clearest.

3. If you have enough grasp of spatial reasoning to draw out a place, you probably don't have to.

That would be reasonable, however for more advanced building, such as using Custom FormFactor parts, that might get difficult.
