Hello, and welcome to Cobalt's Rants, fifth edition. Today we'll be discussing (Or, rather, I should say "Flame warring", as that always seems to happen to these threads) the topic of having a single, private group forum for every group.
Original thread: http://www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=62239953, idea used with permission by OP. ---------- TL;DR:
** I highly recommend reading the full text rather than the TL;DR. The TL;DR is missing much needed information that is required to fully understand this idea. **
Groups should be allowed to have their own personal group forums in place of, or even alongside, the front-page group wall. These forums will be open to whoever is given access to them, just like how you can set permissions on the group wall for certain ranks. These forums will not be visible via the "Forum" tab on ROBLOX's pages, but rather by a "View group forum" button on the group's page. The group forum can be moderated by group members in the same way as the group wall is. ---------- Full text:
** It is highly recommended that you read the entirety of this section for you to understand the full position and reasons for this idea. Anything less and you are likely to skip over many key points that are significant to the topic at hand. **
As we all know, the group wall can be a bit cluttered at times. And, by "at times", I mean every second of the day; especially so in larger groups. For instance, large groups tend to have at least a thousand members in them. But, it only has a single wall for them all to post on. This is tantamount to every person in OT posting all of their ideas on the same thread, rather than spreading them up into different view-able topics. We need better organization in the groups for communication.
Moreover, forum posts are much neater than wall posts in of themselves. Wall posts are extremely limited in character length, and don't allow certain things such as new paragraphs. This makes not only the entire wall cluttered, but also makes the single post itself very hard to read unless it is less than two sentences. Imagine me trying to make this point on a group wall for a second. Even if I only tried to post the TL;DR version, I'd still need to split it into two separate posts. We need a better way to convey our ideas to our selective community.
Now, you may ask, "Why can't you just use the already in place forums?" Well, I'll answer that for you. First of all, do you want RT, or OT, or C&G to be flooded with the types of posts that are put on every groups’ walls? I'm sure we can all agree that they have enough as they are already. In fact, with this idea, we could even take down the unneeded, and redundant, forums on this site, If the community so wanted (But that doesn't have to happen if it isn’t wanted).
Furthering that point, I would like to add that many demographics here at ROBLOX have frequently made it known that they would like their own forum. One in particular is bronies. Bronies are the type of people that only get flame whenever they post their ideas on the forums, even if the post does indeed belong there. Because of this, they have asked many times for a separate forum so we can all just get along. They have always been denied by either the community or the ROBLOX staff, for sane reasons such as "If we do this, we must do this for Adventure Time as well." There have also been some insane reasons such as because the hypocritical non-bronies neither want them to stay, nor want to give them the means to leave.
Nevertheless of their reasons for supporting or denying the want for separate forums, this would surely be the mediator that should hopefully make most people happy. A group can be made dedicated to a certain show, and they would have a forum to use as they please, moderated by the group who owns it to avoid abuse, and would be hidden from the rest of the community, even from the "Forum" tab, so no one who doesn't want to see the topics has to see the topics.
And it's not just bronies. What about the Adventure Time fanatics? SpongeBob fanatics? Whovians? Even science geeks? Don't want to see their posts? No problem. Just don't go to their group forums. What if they want to post about their ideas? No problem for any of them either. Now that preying eyes cannot flame them, they are safe to frolic the lands they own without fear of troll-hate.
Now, again, some may ask "What happens to the group wall, then?" Well, I'll answer that as well. The group wall can be simply used as a front page for the group, or completely removed by unchecking "Can view the group wall" for every rank. Ultimately, the fate of the wall lies in the hands of the group that owns it, just as it does right now.
The group walls are too crammed & cluttered. The group walls don't have enough freedom & flexibility to convey ideas properly. The forums are sometimes not what are required for certain groups of people to communicate, and neither is the wall. The only solution I see is to fuse the privacy of the latter, with the freedom of the former. Only then can we stop fighting with each other for who gets the first thread spot in a forum, and get on with our lives. Fair enough?

AWESOME IDEA
you forgot to add the point that the C&G forum is a bad place because people not in the group can post on it and it can really be annoying.

"you forgot to add the point that the C&G forum is a bad place because ponies not in the group can post on it and it can really be annoying." -- Strangely enough, I wanted to make that point, but I did, indeed, forget to put it in when editing. Thank you for pointing it out.

Support. However, the group must buy a private forum for 100 R$. Also, they must have a high enough rank, a rank permitted for them to post on those forums. Also, a certain given rank can make stickied forums. However, stickied forums must cost 50 Tix, or 5 Robux. Owners of the group could delete the stickies depending on what they want. If said part is done, the original poster will get 80% of their money back. Only certain groups could post on it. The owner can choose from the following options: [_] All [_] Friendly & Alliance [v/] Alliance Only -(Default)
Why?
Ex: Jaredvaldez4 group - I personally dont like him, dont get me wrong, but suppose jared wanted a forum, but normal 'fans' couldnt post on it. Why? Because so many people make spam alts to bug him. Also, if anyone could post on it for stickies, they would have like 1,000,000 stickies. Jared would then be able to delete those useless stickies, and clean the forum. See my point? This would also be for other groups, this is just an example...

Ronster, I thought I had included a section for group permissions. If I hadn't, sorry. I had meant to. The group forums will be managed just like the group wall. With view forum/post in forum/delete forum posts being just like view wall/post in wall/delete wall posts. Stickies are a good idea also. And, as always, the own of the group gets full permissions to everything.

| Quite the tl;dr, but it sounds like an awesome idea; I like Ronster's points as well. Sometimes the wall is just too much. |

"because ponies" I see what you did there.. ---------------------------------- I give full support; on the other hoof, however, I think there should be limitations like Ronster's ideas. Just being able to make a forum out of the blue will be like calling for the spammers, and having others be able to view/write in the forum may just ruin the whole idea.
Can't bother to read the paragraph? Well, it says "I support".

I guess this is so you can make a pony forum, eh?
Why not? Support. I guess this is also a good compromise.
