[Hero's Gauntlet - A Tale of Redwall]
[Table of Contents]
Story Information Rules Character Sheet
[Story]
An old grey mouse gathers a group of woodlanders together before a crackling fire in the great hall of Redwall Abbey. Young babes are squealing, whilst olderbeasts sit quietly. The mouse speaks, his voice old and dry, but powerful. "Now, Redwallers. We have been gathered here so I can tell you of one of the old stories, in the past times of Redwall Abbey. This particular tale takes place back in the seasons of Abbot Gerrelt..."
The sharp rapping of a spearbutt sounded on the door of a leaky shack of a house. "Open up! Marauder patrol!", sounded the sharp voice of a vermin guard. A young mole, shivering, opened the door, and stepped back behind a shelf. In tumbled two spear toting weasels and a rat slave captain, along with a torrent of rain. The rat cracked his whip, a flash of lightning casting his shadow across the room, his red dyed fur staining the shadow the colour of blood. "Now yer listen, woodlander brats! Lord Kurgg ain't happy with yer services in the fields. He thought ye'd need a bit of persuasion, aye me cullies?", he said, nodding at the weasels as he finished the sentence. The family dwelling in the house, a group of mice, and a mole nanny, shuddered and whimpered as the larger weasel roughly grabbed the father of the mice, dragging him off into the cold night. He was followed by his comrade and commander, and as the door closed behind them, the quick slashing sound of stabbing spears, along with a short, muffled scream was heard, cut off by a crack of thunder.
[Information]
Races - 1 Factions - 2 Redwall Abbey - 3 Vocabulary - 4 Important Characters - 5 Terms - 6 Locations - 7
---
Races - 1
Races in the Redwall universe are seperated into "goodbeasts" and "vermin". Goodbeast races include, but are not limited to -
Mice Shrews Voles Moles Otters Hares / Rabbits Hedgehogs Cats Badgers Small Birds Birds of Prey Owls
Vermin races include, but are not limited to -
Rats Ferrets Weasels Stoats Foxes Wildcats Wolverines Snakes Lizards Scavenger Birds
Other races, such as crocodiles or tigers, are only mentioned once or twice in the Redwall books, and I would please like it if you don't use them as your race.
Factions - 2
Factions in the Redwall universe are mainly limited to certain races, for example, the Guosim are a shrew tribe. Most vermin factions are referred to as "Hordes" or "Packs". Some factions in Redwall include, but are not limited to -
Abbeydwellers, the goodbeasts who live in Redwall Abbey, lead by the Abbot or Abess The Otter Tribes, tribes of otters lead by the Skipper of Otters Guosim, the Guerilla Union of Shrews in Mossflower, shrew warriors lead by the Log-a-Log The Long Patrol, an army of hares and rabbits lead by a badger Lord Vermin Gangs, various groups of vermin bandits or corsairs
This roleplay includes some made up factions, for plot purposes and such. These factions include -
The Red Marauders, a four thousand strong horde of evil vermin with red fur, lead by Kurgg the Slayer The Townspeople of Oakshire, goodbeasts who formed a town in Mossflower
Redwall Abbey - 3
Redwall Abbey is, in the Redwall universe, an abbey / castle built out of red sandstone. It is lead by an Abbot or Abess, and protected by a Champion. It is hard to get into without inside help. The abbey is quite large, made to be a safe haven for goodbeasts. Locations included in the abbey are -
The outer walls The great hall Cavern Hole [ A sort of lodge / den like area beneath the great hall. ] The abbey kitchens The dormitories The infirmary The orchard [ Apples, strawberries, and pears ] The pond The gatehouse [ Where the Champion lives ]
Vocabulary - 4
The same language is spoken throughout Redwall, English. But, most animals have some form of accent or way of speaking that's different from the others. Goodbeast ways of speaking are -
Mice, Hedgehogs, Badgers, Cats, and Voles - Simple British accents, although they use a more North American sounding vocabulary
Shrews and Otters - Like Mice and Voles, but with a more nautical sound to it. For example, "Mornin' there matey, gots the skilly'n'duff ready, aye?"
Moles - Speak in rough, country molespeech. For example, "Hulloh zurr, wot's yer duheng?", which means, "Hello sir, what are you doing?"
Hares / Rabbits - Speak in Victorian gentleman style. They also like to end sentences with "wot", which possibly means "what". It is never specified in the books. For example, "Top of the morning to you, chap, tis the jolly old breakfast finished already, wot wot?"
Small Birds - Small birds speak in a primitive, tribal manner, and use the term "worm" for many different meanings. For example, "Sparra fly out, ketcha lots wormfood, mouseworm stay, no ketcha foodworms, no, sparrafly only.", which means, "I'll fly out, and catch lots of worms. Mouse, you stay here. You can't catch worms, no. Sparrows only."
Birds of Prey - Birds of prey generally have a more medieval nobleman like accent, but not like hares or rabbits. For example, "Good sir, thou cannot! Thou would be commiting thy suicide!"
Vermin generally have a more rough, pirate-like way of speaking, with the exception of some major villains, who are more sophisticated. Vermin ways of speaking are -
Rats, Ferrets, Stoats, Wildcats, and Weasels - These vermin speak much like one would imagine a pirate or bandit speaking. For example, "Hullo thar, cully, yer's the one wot robbed them shrewfolks of thar' priz'd sword?"
Searats - Searats speak with an accent that's a cross between the accent of a Rat and the accent of an ttter or shrew.
Foxes and Wolverines - Foxes and wolverines speak like mice or badgers, but with a more sly tone, and random bits of vermin vocabulary thrown in.
Snakes and Lizards - These reptilian vermin speak in a way where they lengthen the letters S, R, and Z, and replace soft C with S. For example, "Hello therrre, frrriendssssss."
Scavenger Birds - Scavenger birds and carrion pickers, like buzzards and crows, speak with accents that are faintly middle eastern, and often add cawing noises in the middle of their sentences.
There are also animals that come from the upper Northlands or mountains, who are generally called Northlanders. It is more common for vermin and birds to be Northlanders than goodbeasts. The Northlander accent is sort of scottish. For example, "Whot are yae doin', yae great wump of a beast!?"
Important Characters - 5
In this roleplay, there are many important characters, although more are good then bad. The important characters in this roleplay include -
Abbot Gerrelt, the mouse abbot of Redwall. He is a kindly fellow, in his middle seasons, with greying fur and glasses.
Feold the Champion, a mouse who wields the Sword of Martin, and is the current Champion of Redwall.
Skipper Bruck of the Otters, an otter with orangey-brown fur, who leads the otter tribes.
Log-a-Log Jipper, the Log-a-Log of the Guosim, an older shrew who's always wanted to go out to sea.
Kurgg the Slayer, a red furred ferret. Kurgg is the strongest vermin ever known, and it has been said that he could "slay five badgers empty pawed."
Terms - 6
In the Redwall universe, common words such as "hand" or "food" are replaced with various other words, which may be slightly confusing. A list of changed words includes -
Hand - Paw Foot - Footpaw Food - Victuals [ Pronounced vittles by most ] Somebody - Somebeast Anybody - Anybeast Year - Season
Locations - 7
In the Redwall universe and this roleplay, there are many locations, and most should be known, as they are important to the roleplay.
Redwall Abbey - An abbey where many good woodlanders and goodbeasts live Mossflower Woods - The huge forest surrounding Redwall Abbey Salamandastron - An inactive volcano by the sea, home to the Long Patrol and a Badger Lord Lake Rift - An inland lake, with an island known as Riftgard in the center River Moss - A river going from one coast, to Lake Rift, to the other coast. Shrews and otters dwell here Town of Oakshire - A town of wooden buildings, built next to Lake Rift Great Sea - The sea closest to Mossflower country, connected by the River Moss to another sea Southsward - A land of plains, far south of Mossflower, ruled by the Squirrelking

He also wears a small holster on the side of his body for his small pistol and ammunition. Weapon - Small pistol with a small scope on the top. Don't underestimate it though. Well if the small medieval type of guns aren't allowed in a medieval roleplay...
Then I'll just change it to (small, of course) bow and arrow? If I make it something other than long-ranged, I'll have to re-do my CS. |

Jp, I advise you read a Redwall book before coming back here, but yes, a bow and arrow is fine.
Just, gunpowder does not exist yet in Redwall, it's set in the early middle ages time. |

Name - Latanzhar Age - Thirty Seasons Race - Shrew Gender - Male Appearance - He has fully grey fur, with a a tall cropping of fur on the back of his head. He is of Average Height, plastering a stripe of war-paint over his left eye. A small part of his left ear is bitten off, and his tail is rough and dry. He has a long scar on his arm from birth, whom he has named "Corsair." Apparel - Having been a low income shrew from childbirth, Latanzhar's savings cause him no mercy. All he owns is a Green Roughspun Tunic, secured by some cord around his waist; a Crude Leather Pauldron for his left shoulder, wielded with cheap iron to his clothes; and a brown sack-cloth cloak, torn and itchy. Weapon - Latanzhar uses a Shortbow with a quiver of some (fifteen) stone-tipped arrows. The bow was meant more for hunting game, but still amounted to some protection in the wilderness. Items - A small beige sack Latanzhar manually carries, containing a hunk of flat-bread, a wedge of cheese, and a map of River Moss. Allegiance - Neutral, if not, Good. Faction - The Guosim Tribes Other Information - Latanzhar was a native of River Moss, yet his young spirit lead him to lust for a new life. The head of the house was dying, and the family was going into starvation. They could not afford to feed another full beast, and so Latanzhar left anew, leaving his brother to support his family. Latanzhar was hoping to make a journey to Redwall Abbey, hearing that it was safe. He was unaware of the terror in the area from the Red Marauders (if I am wrong, omit this part). Latanzhar has traveled far into the Mossflower Woods, hoping to reach the abbey soon. |

| (Well, some flaws are found. One, Redwall largely uses a barter system, money when found is only valued by vermin because it's gold and gold is shiny. Two, hunting game with that bow? I know in the Redwall universe, goodbeasts eat fish, but I've never known them to eat actual meat. Vermin can nom lots of meat, though, because they're vermin and most of them are carnivorous.) |

| (Oh, I forgot, accepted. And don't expect Redwall to be all cutesie because it's animals. In one of the books, a weasel has his head cut off by another vermin and stabbed ontop of the mast of a ship, where it rotted and stained the top of the mast red. It's pretty gruesome.) |
