It's basically when the moon is closer to Earth than usual. It appears alot bigger and brighter then usual. Some say due to the moon being closer to the Earth it causes tides to be stronger and may have a possible link to natural disasters.
I'm not sure about the disasters part. We'll have to wait and see |

I can see tsunamis being part of that. Not things like earthquakes or tornados. |

They say that 3 days before the supermoon and 3 days after there is a a higher chance of disasters. I believe last year the supermoon happened a couple of days after the earthquake in Japan |

| There's also suppose to be a Meteor Shower tonight which the supermoon may outshine. |
