[]Hello, and welcome to my tutorial on how to make a light path wrap around a logo. First, here's some things you should know:
THIS TUTORIAL REQUIRES GIMP 2.6 OR LATER BG- Short for Background. FG- Short for Foreground. I have selected a dark theme, which I will explain how to do in another tutorial. I have a Mac.
[]Now, let's learn! (not something you get excited about, though...)
[]-Step One-[]
Create a new image. Start with a good size for making logos with effects outside of the actual logo, 800x800:

[]-Step 2-[]
Click on the "Circle Select" tool. Make a random circle on the screen and change the following values as shown:

[]-Step 3-[]
Fill the BG with white:

[]-Step 4-[]
Select the "Path Creator" tool:

[]-Step 5-[]
This is where it gets very difficult for beginners. If you are a beginner, I would HIGHLY recommend messing around with this tool for about 10 minutes or so to get the feel of using this tool. After you get the hang of it, create a path that looks like this:

[]-Step 6-[]
Make paths that look like you're draping a tinsel around a christmas tree:

[]-Step 7-[]
Create a new layer of transparency with the same dimensions as the image, 800x800 pixels. Unless you have changed something in Preferences, it should do this by default:

[]-Step 8-[]
Go to the Paths tab, located in the window "Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo - Brushes, Patterns, Gradients":
http://www.roblox.com/Figure-8-item?id=78172684
[]-Step 9-[]
Click the "Stroke Path" button located in the window "Layers, Channels, Paths, Undo - Brushes, Patterns, Gradients":
http://www.roblox.com/Figure-9-item?id=78172981
[]-Step 10-[]
Pretty much leave everything alone and click ok:

[]-Step 11-[]
In the toolbar, go to Filters>Light And Shadow>Drop Shadow:
http://www.roblox.com/Figure-11-item?id=78173306
[]-Step 12-[]
Change the values to what is shown. You may use any color you want, I'm just going to use red for this example:
http://www.roblox.com/Figure-12-item?id=78173600
[]-Step 13-[]
Repeat this 3 times. At this point, you should have 4 drop shadow layers plus the layer your path made. Merge all 5 of these layers by right clicking and clicking "Merge Down" for each drop shadow layer plus the layer your path made. When this is all said and done, your image should look somewhat like this (I was in a bit of a hurry and totally messed up the path. I'm sure yours will look much better than mine :P) :

[]-Step 14-[]
Zoom in to 400%.

[]-Step 15-[]
This part can be easy or hard. What you have to do is erase the path that intercepts with the logo every 2 lines. This make it look like the light path is wrapping around the logo:

[]-Step 16-[]
Finally the last step. I'm sure that we're both happy that I'm almost done typing. This is probably the simplest step. Zoom back out to 66.7%. Now sit back and look at your piece de resistance:

[]Yay, we're done! Please PM me if you need any help with creating ads, logos, decals, shirts, ect. If you need help with anything shown, please PM me as well. Thanks, and have a nice day! |
