Revising my story.

---

A man sat at a broad, wooden desk. He tapped the sole of his shoe against the wooden boards beneath his feet. He wore a dingy hat, like that of a pirate's. His shoulders were very broad, and his uniform was dull and gray; he wore a long, cotton coat that split at the bottom into two divisions. His boots were dark and leather, and on his face he wore a dark mask that exposed the complexions of his eyes and mouth.
On the opposite side of the desk, a boy stood. He was no older than 18, and his skin tone was notably dark. His eyes were cold, and a dark shade of blue. His lips expressed bitterness and animosity, as they were curled downward in a scowl. His straight, dark hair was brushed over his right ear, while concealing the other. His eyebrows were fairly thin, and matched his hair. He wore no shirt, but he did wear baggy pants that partially covered his feet. He wore many bracelets, and necklaces that hung low to his chest. He had a strong build. His beard and mustache had been trimmed recently; they were, at the time, very thin.

The stodgy man arose from his desk, and walked around it to meet the teenager. He gripped his shoulder with his grubby fingers and squeezed. "She is your responsibility now, Dritz," said the man. "I would like you to keep a close eye on her at all costs."

"I understand, Captain," responded the boy, Dritz. "But what about Achard?"

"Achard's being punished for his treason. Getting the punishment he deserves," growled the man. "He'll be in the hold for three to four days 'till I'm convinced he's renewed his loyalty. Lox 'n Palid will keep watch on him."

Dritz nodded, and waited for dismissal. With a sweep of Pendus's hand -- that was the captain's name -- Dritz left the cabin and stepped out onto the main deck. Nothing had changed since Dritz had gone into the cabin only moments before, but some of the crewmates -- they were all around Dritz's age, though some were much younger; a few had recently been taken captive by Pendus, and they were no older than 12 -- stole curious glances at Dritz. And, when they followed his gaze toward Renda, the seventeen year old crewmate who had caused a crisis only recently, they murmured to one another in low voices. But Dritz paid them no attention. Palid and Lox, two twins who were sixteen and seventeen, and had vowed to stay loyal to Pendus, wearily sat at the hold's hatch and gazed at the clouds above. Meanwhile, one crewmate - the supposedly mute girl with red locks and freckles - stood at the ship's bow and gazed down at the clouds, as Grauthus was a sea of open sky and clouds.
Floating masses of land were scattered about Grauthus- left, right, above, and below. Grauthus had once been connected, but a crisis had struck this world, and it had shattered; its fragments dispersed, and the skies became boundless. Later, Pendus had constructed a ship in the form of a dragon: its hull was made of the dragon's red scales, and two broad, crimson red wings protruded from either side of the ship. At the the bow sprit, a rather massive head of a dragon guided the pirate ship in the open skies. Rather than a captain guiding the ship, the dragon did. It flapped its broad wings to put the ship in motion; it breathed breaths of flames as a stronghold for the ship; and, it used its shrill screeches to intimidate its prey. Once his construction was complete, Pendus claimed this ship as the Dragonfly, the tyrant of the skies.

Frankly, I don't know how to continue. ._. I'll have to put more thought into this... which, lately, I haven't been doing... :P

Chapter I.

Crystal tears plummetted toward the deck of the Dragonfly. And, far off sounded the emphatic wails of the thunder. A strip of lightning illuminated the dark sky, but for no more than a second. The storm had driven the crew into the hold, but in a room opposite of Achard's temporary cell. Only a number of them admired the striking storms. The rest huddled together in the hold, as though they were not crooks and thieves, but young children who depended deeply on their parents to comfort them in such conditions.

Two boys lay awake in the same, swaying hammock, but only one flinched at each clap of thunder. They were of the same age; and their birthdays were only months apart. They were both notably tanned, though one was exceptionally tanner than the other. The one on the left had fair, sandy hair, and the other had dark hair with few curls. The boys both wore baggy garments, shades of brown sewn together. In hushed tones, the boys conversed.

"Virde, Pendus is enticing you with stolen goods. Is it so hard to ignore him? Virde? Virde? Are you listening to me?"

"Go to sleep, Faowind."

"Answer my question first. Is it so hard-"

"Yes-"

"Then why-"

"Faowind!" He spoke so sharply and garishly that a few of the crewmates stirred. They looked at Virde, and Virde returned the look. Then, they turned back over in their hammocks and drifted back off into sleep. "Faowind," he continued. "I think we... ought to stay."

"Virde!" Faowind's twisted face expressed so many emotions at that moment- pain; shock; disbelief; confusion; anger. But, Virde would not meet Faowind's gaze, as he did not want to acknowledge of Faowind's mixed emotions. He knew they were there, but he'd been tricked before by his persuasive gazes.

"Go to sleep, Faowind."

"Virde." Faowind's voice thickened. "I need you. I need you more than I have ever needed you. And, if you abandon me now, I can't forgive you. You're aware of this, right?"

"Go to sleep, Faowind!"

"Virde-"

"Sleep!"

Again and again, Faowind called out to Virde. But Virde didn't respond, not even cough or clear his throat. And, presently, tears - real tears; not tears that fall from the sky, as they did now - clouded Faowind's eyes. He had hoped for escape, but now Virde would not grant him this offering. And, if Virde wouldn't, nobody would.

Blahhh, I still need to work on it. Sure, it's touching, but I want to bring tears to the reader's eyes. Not just the character's. :3

When Faowind had awoken from his rather difficult sleep, he did not see Virde anywhere. He swept his gaze around the room. Only a few crewmates were still asleep. Virde was not among them.

Faowind climbed a ladder onto the main deck; a handful of the crewmates were crowded around the front of the ship, chanting something, though Faowind could not make out their words. This had pricked Faowind's curiousity, and, thus, he joined the crowd, pushing through the mass of people to see what was occurring.
Dritz and one other boy were tying the last knots on the boy who had previously been tied to the bow sprit. Faowind recognized the other boy to be Palid, the oldest of the two brunette twins. He had not often seen him without his brother, Lox, but he assumed that was because there was not room enough for all three of them.
The boy's arms and legs were tied to the bow sprit. The rest of his squirming body hung loosely below the pole. Dritz and Palid quickly withdrew from the bow sprit, and the mass of people took several steps backward to make room. Below, the dragon head stirred, casting the boy anxious glances. Faowind had never witnessed such an execution, but he immediately knew what would become of the boy.
The dragon coocked its head, and reached around to examine the boy more closely. Presently, its jaw widened until its teeth flashed brightly in the crew's faces. Slowly and carefully, the dragon stretched its neck--

Faowind was pulled from the crowd just as an uproar broke the eerie silence on the deck. Faowind had not seen anything, as others had quickly filled his place once he was dragged away. Faowind turned to find Virde's gaze meeting his own. He and Virde then embraced. Fortunately, the crews' uproar had sounded out the victim's screams.

Virde pulled away from Faowind and took him by the shoulders. Virde gave him an apologetic smile, and embraced him for the second time. He murmured in his ear ever so quietly, "I cannot afford to lose your trust, Faowind. And, I had made a promise. Promises are our stronghold."

Faowind pulled away, and met Virde's skeptical gaze. "Do you mean what you say, Virde?"

Virde's smile widened. "Of course, Faowind."

Faowind, too, smiled broadly. Now filled with delight and gratitude, Faowind pulled Virde into one final hug that day.

Questions regarding the story? Ask me, and I *might* have an answer. Remember that I'm not really planning this out; I'm just writing what comes to mind first. ._.

Chapter II.

On the morning of the execution, Faowind did not even acknowledge Achard as he passed by his cell. But Achard hadn't tried to catch his attention, as he did not want any further punishment for speaking to the crewmates. It wasn't necessarily prohibited, but Achard was certain that Lox would tell a little white lie to Pendus's face.
Lox soon came trodding down the stairs, narrowing his eyes at Achard as though he had done something wrong. Then he started glaring. Hatred burned brightly and clearly in his cold gaze. Achard returned the gaze, and Palid looked away.

"I'm thirsty," Achard said dryly.

"Hush, you!" countered the spiteful Lox. "You got water. Turn 'round."

"It's too warm," responded Achard. "I would much rather prefer cold water-"

"And I'd prefer to be fishin'!" growled Lox. "But that ain't my choice. I was put in charge of you. And I ain't given you no more water!"

"Very well," replied Achard, turning his back on Lox. "I didn't do anything."

Lox's face reddened. "You know what you did, you lyin' pighead! You attacked Breen while the rest of us were busy lootin' the village!"

"I didn't attack him. Palid did," said Achard.

"How would you know?" Once more, Lox's eyes narrowed at him. But Achard did not respond, as he had been a witness, and he hadn't done anything to stop Palid. And he was too petrified to run, or even close his eyes. Once Palid had noticed him, he'd threatened to harm him if he told on Palid. As Palid dashed off, he had crept up to the corpse, heavy with dread and dismay. And that was when Dritz had noticed him stooping over the corpse...
