I saw my brothers 5th great Christmas concert.
They moved the whole audience to tears when they sang "Jingle Bell Rock". |

>Anthrax >Testament >Megadeth >Slayer >NO Metallica
Kinda odd. If he's seen Anthrax, Slayer, 'Deth, and Testament, it would make sense to see 'Tallica... But anyways, that's pretty cool. How many concerts has he BEEN too? Oh, and nice taste in music.

| Wow, I'd even get sick of concerts if I saw that many. I've been to 3 already and they're pretty wild. Of course, I see popular singers so it's always a packed show. |

| My dad actually had 3 chances to see 'Tallica, but he turned them all down. One in '91, one in '98, and the last time in '04. He's basically avoided Metallica ever since they released Black Album.. Also, he said there's no telling how many he's been to. My guess is at least 90 or something. |

>'91 WHAT WHY WOULD HE DECLINE A 'TALLICA CONCERT THEN THEY WERE AT THEIR PRIME BACK THEN
No really, up to the Black Album, they were at their prime. That's when they were at their best. -- •∏åPåLM I∏ †H∑ MØ®∏I∏G |

My dad always liked to share his hate for Black Album with me... He'd tell me Metallica was doing fine back then- they had thousands of fans, plenty of money, and they made the most uncompromised music around. They didn't need MTV videos or rock radio airplay to win thousands of fans; they did it with the pure musical genius and the best live concerts ever for almost ten years. He told me he worshipped them like they were gods along with thousands of other people. Metallica was practically was the only band he would listen to when he discovered them after purchasing Ride the Lightning on a whim. He said it totally blew his mind...
Then he would tell me that most bands first releases are self-titled and in Metallica's case they were a new and different band now. With the "black album", he told me about how they contradicted everything they once stood for and said. The hypocrisy they sung about had become their own. He said songs like "Enter Sandman", "Don't Tread On Me", and "Nothing Else Matters" are songs that are devoid of any intellectual meaning, but that it was the kind of songs they had to write to win mass appeal. There are plenty of "hey-hey-heys", "yeah-yeah-yeahs", and "whoa-whoa-whoas" to prove his point. The music song structures were incredibly typical of pop rock and profoundly boring. They even drafted hair metal producer Bob Rock to record the album to show the obvious direction they were going. Then, there were 4 embarrasing, terrible music videos tailor fit for MTV. What a glorious trainwreck that band has become.
..That's his thoughts though. If it were me, I'd be more harsh on it really. Ah, memories of riding in his old truck while playing South of Heaven and Persecution Mania are already flowing back to me. |
