Who says that fusing genres will sound weird? Who knows, in a few years people might learn to accept the music and your band could have an individual genre attributed to it.

Ofcourse you should, if you want to. I am going for the same thing, but as bassist/vocalist in a heavy and symphonic metal band. (They do not look much like eachother, but that does not mean you can't play both.) I sure wished more people would support me though, the only ones who support me are my mother and my stepfather. >:U |
