| And the hammer and sickle represents Socialism too. And I think socialism, or communism is better than Fascism. Why not do Fascism? |

I have a strange feeling that at least half of your peers are going to make a Kony 2012 painting.
I do tons of artistic expressions about world issues, but it's not with paint. It's with a drum-set/other percussion (bongos, steel drum, etc...) bass guitar, piano, two electric guitars and my voice along with a few special touches (usually low-pitch background screaming) from other vocals of my band. However, I do not see how the U.S converting to a communist economic system is a (current) world issue. |

Thats more of a national issue.
Instad of that, paint the world with a communist symbol and refer something to something in George Orwell's 1984 |

Personally, I don't see communism as a world issue in general. As far as I'm concerned, there has never been a nation that actually managed to go through with true communism. And, honestly, I don't think there ever will be. I read the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx, and it's trying to take a perfect economic system and apply it to a screwed up world. So, to make things work, we have to apply screwed up systems that take humanity's biggest flaws (such as greed and selfishness) and apply them to a screwed up world. By the way, for some confused people, it's an economic system, not a government system.
Communism ≠ Dictatorship

Communism does equal to going backwards though. We are human beings, we don't go backward, we go forever forward. We are not going to become a hunter gathering society.
We are Humans, we will create better technology and an advanced capitalist economy for a better tomorrow. |

I'm Democratic Socialist. I have read none of Karl Marx's writings, but plan to. There are many countries that were/are good, and are some form of socialism. I don't see why everyone hates it.
Sure if you have a completely screwed up leader, as with any government, the country will most likely fail (I'm talking about someone different than Stalin, since Stalin succeeded). |

--That's kind of what I'm getting at. Communism could operate as a working economic system where humans advance in arts and technology IF people living under that system actually had the desire to improve and advance humanity in these things based entirely on wanting to help their fellow humans instead of wanting money and being materialistic. HOWEVER, since humans are greedy and find it hard to work for the better of others without being "paid" for it, it would most likely end up as a hunter gathering society, yes. Perfect system, screwed up world, no chemistry. |

Tomato, Communism is simply an economic system, not the way people rule things. As I said, Communism is not a dictatorship. There can be such things as a Democratic government and a Communist economic system co-existing together. Communism has to do with wealth, not power. In the Giver, the whole idea of the government controlling everything is NOT a Communist idea.
Here's what I'm saying:
Communism is NOT another word for dictatorship.
In the same way that:
Capitalism is NOT another word for democracy.

If I was given that project I would make it about a real issue like. Poverty, pollution or nuclear security.
I would probably paint a picture of NZ with a giant uncle sam dropping a nuclear bomb onto New Zealand from his hand.
With a message at the bottom saying. "He's coming south, be prepared"
With this I am not trying to say the US threatens NZ with nuclear war heads, I am trying to say america threatens NZ's anti-nuclear laws.
Oh and one tiny extra detail I base this of a poster from world war II that I always see at my cities war museum. The everything is the same except it shows a japanese soldier with a gun rather than uncle sam with a nuke. |

>But communism gives people all the same salary, but in a democratic system, you have opportunity to do well or better than someone else. In communism, everyone is the same and makes the same amount of money, and therefore do not have the opportunity to become more important than others.
--Wow... Hold on, let me just... DEMOCRACY IS NOT AN ECONOMIC SYSTEM!
Sorry for the Caps Lock there, but, seriously, read what I've been posting on this thread and take some time to process it.
Also, as I've already pointed out, if our world was less concerned with "I'm better than all of you!" and started making their lives more about helping and advancing each other in arts, health, and science, Communism (an ECONOMIC system) could work. But since our world IS full of people who are naturally selfish and greedy, Communism (where people are equal ECONOMICALLY) is not going to work.
***Please, please, please don't confuse Capitalism and Democracy or Communism and any other placement of power and leadership.***

*facepalm* They're not giving it to us there have just been a lot of talks between John Key (NZ's prime minister) and Barrack Obama on free trade and such. But free trade would also probably lead to america being alowwed to sail nuclear subs to NZ. Also John Key is also going to the nuclear security summit. |
