Credit to Crockdile for posting the thread that made me think of this idea. http://www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=64296543 __________________________________________ ~~~~~~~ Thread more-so aimed towards clans, but is for all groups. ~~~~~~~ ------- If you are familiar with groups already, simply read section IV and V (and three if you want). I will not respond to any 'tl;dr's. Therefor, do not respond if you haven't read sections IV and V. -------

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I) Groups ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For those of you who are new to ROBLOX, groups are a big part of the ROBLOX community. Groups may stretch from fan clubs, to interests, to clans/guides.
To make a group, you must be a Builders Club member ($5,95 for one month of regular), and pay R$100.
Each group may hold up to 9 ranks, one of those ranks being the leader. The eight ranks under the leader may be filled up as much as you wish.
As the owner of a group, you may choose what type of power certain ranks have, and what ranks don't have certain powers.
Whatever you do with your group is completely up to you - as long as you follow the rules, of course. So if you're thinking of making a group, be creative, and do what you want to do. Hosting a group that isn't under your interest wouldn't be easy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ II) Group Shouts ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Currently, group shouts are the easiest way to get your news out to your group. Schedules, updates, anything like that. In a group about scripting, a high-ranked member may post news about new scripting techniques found. In a clan, a high-ranked member may post about a raid that is currently going on, in order to get clan members to help out.
Group shouts are useful in the sense that you don't have to go messaging every user in the group. Instead, you put a group shout in the group, and it will appear on the group page until over-shouted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ III) Hard Times ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Groups have many amazing features to keep group members tuned in on what is happening in the group. One of these things being the group shout, as stated. The group shouts are the most effective way of getting your message out there to your group. But, is it really all that effective?
As I see it, new groups have trouble getting their messages out to the group. The problem with this? It is because new groups don't have a tendency to have a lot of members.
Without the popularity or advertisement funds, you really can't get recognition on your group. To get these funds, you need to keep your members occupied and excited, so that they may get a few of their friends to join. At first, this won't seem like something big, since there's not many people getting their friends to join. But, if you have a group with 500 people, and half of the members get three friends to join, then that adds 750 more people to the group.
------ [Mathematical Explanation] Half of 500 members = 500 / 2 500 / 2 = 250
If 250 members get three friends to join, you end up with 750 more people added into the group. 250 members getting three friends each = 250 x 3 250 x 3 = 750
If 250 x 3 = 750, that means that upon half of your 500 member-large group getting three friends to join, 750 people in total are recruited into your group. Chances are though, about one hundred of them won't stay. So after a while, that will be 650 more people to your group. ------
After you have gotten higher up in the amount of members, you may start inviting people to participate in group events. Chances are, these events will appear at a place of yours. If you're group consists of 2,500 members, and 1,000 come, then that is 1,000 extra tickets that could possibly be used to get your group recognized.
But, here is where the issue comes in.
With a small group, about 10% of your group will actually be on at one time during the day, and just about all of them will be occupied, and have no time to pay attention to a small group. So a group shout doesn't seem like a very effective way to get a message out to small groups.
Having no way to reach your members all at once, you must find a different way to reach them. Chances are, you don't want to message each individual person. That is too time-consuming. So, in the end, you need to find a way around this, which I have not been able to do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ IV) Group Messaging ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The idea I have come up with is group messaging. Group messaging is a nice, and easy way of getting messages out to your group!
At the top-right corner of the ROBLOX page, you have a message button, friend request button, R$ button, and TIX button. My idea is that to the left of that, there can be a group message button.
You cannot respond to group messages. You may archive them, and delete them. Group messages will be received after a group message is sent from one of the groups you are in.
Group messages have no specific person they are sent to. When a group message is sent, everyone in the group receives it.
On the right side of your group's page, there are buttons like [Group Admin] and [Leave Group]. I was thinking that under [Group Admin] there could be [Group Message]. Of course, this is where you send your group messages from.
Group messages are sent the same way a normal message is. But as I said earlier, someone cannot respond to them. They get titled, and they get a body inside.
The purpose of group messaging is for smaller groups, and for important messages, since group messages never expire. Group messages are there until you delete them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ V) Problems & Solutions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Problem: What if someone in the group constantly sends group-messages? Solution: Only the leader of a group may group-message.
Problem: What if I don't like to receive group messages? Solution: There could be an option added into the group where you must enable group messages before you will receive them from that group.
Problem: What if I want certain ranks to be able to group-message? Solution: Maybe there could be a disable/enable button in group admin to choose which ranks can and cannot send group messages.
Please do not respond harshly to this thread. Everyone is to be treated equally, no matter what you have seen in another thread. All that matters here is what is happening in this thread.
If you support, please give extra ideas if you have any. If you do not support, please explain why and possibly give an idea of how to fix the problem. Be sure to check section V before disapproving.
Addition:
Be able to Group Message specific ranks of a group.
Ex: You want to hold a training to welcome and introduce new members to the group's procedures, rather than having all of your proven soldiers come and fill up the server. |
@Alex
That is the point of this thread. I saw this idea in a different post, but didn't think it was all that good there. I knew it had potential, so I decided to post my own revised version of it.
