There was that treaty that the US and Britain signed after WWII that stated the US and Canada should have unprotected borders with each other, forgot the name [1], but that still applies, no?
[1]: Rush-Bagot Treaty, forgot what it was called sadly :/ |

But wasn't the 49th parallel set later then the war of 1812? Or am I just mistaken?

I don't remember when the border was set, but I remember in the Rush-Bagot treaty, they agreed to leave the border between the US and Canada undefended (it's still the longest undefended border in the world)
And Canada would stand no chance in winning if they invaded, nor would it benefit them at all. |

I guess. The more important question to be asked on the subject of "Canadian invasion of America" would be who would Europe support? The UK and its other commonwealths would support Canada, obviously, but I would be thinking about who would Germany, France, Spain and others support?

Nobody would support Canada if they attacked America unprovoked.
The world is full of sissies now: any unprovoked war is looked down upon, unless you're in a one-sided alliance with the aggressor, but that doesn't really happen now due to the UN. |

Ya. America would have all the supporters, for the reason you said, but I think the biggest reason for them siding with the USA is because the USA dominates most of the worlds economy (along with China). A broken American economy=broken world economy.

A war with Canada wouldn't be so bad for us.
The current wars we have are barely wars, we're attacking insurgents, not much progress in those kinds of wars.
A war with Canada, however, would involve America sweeping in, having actual battles rather than being blown up by pipe bombs and pseudo-civilians with AKs and RPGs.
Once we win (because honestly, unless Canada whips out some nukes, they have no chance, and even then...) we'll get retributions and hey, if we want, we can annex Canada and get some free oil (excluding the costs of extraction and refining, of course)
Only problem would be loss of trade with them during the war. |

War with Canada would be bad where I am. In North Dakota, I would be right next to Canada. The biggest issue in a war with Canada would be the long border with them. In any area they can get in. Alaska would be at a loss, to.

Of course it would be bad at first, but once America mobilizes, things should be fine.
This wouldn't be a one-sided war, unless Canada decides to ignore their own cities and just let the Americans sweep through and capture their center of government.
Canada would have to garrison a load of troops to defend, which still wouldn't handle the American army, which is larger, richer, and more advanced.
But it doesn't matter, there is no reason for war with Canada. |

Exactly. A more reasonable war to theorize about is a war with China. And even at that point neither side wants to fight in fear of hurting the worlds economy.

| So the moral of the story is: If they have nukes, don't invade. |

You're the one who blatantly misread what I said, thinking that "Canada as the aggressor" meant "AMERICA INVADE CANADA YA!!!!" OR, better yet, you DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO READ WHAT I SAID, and just made an uneducated post in regards to what I said.
Governments aren't little kids, they know who to like and who to dislike, and openly hating on America (who is a major part of the UN, which most of the major countries in the world are a part of) isn't a very good choice.
Am I saying hating America means war?
No.
But we're the greatest country in the world and an economic power house, and it's best to be on our good side.
And don't think by me using the term "our" I'm pretending as if I'm better than you because I'm American.
Because that isn't the reason that I am :) |

I never said I was better than you.
And you're dancing around the main point that you're an idiot who just skips to the bottom of a thread and posts without reading the whole thread.
