"The Beatles sold one billion records." O.o I think I shat my pants. Damn. That's one sixth of the population of the world. |

| Believe me, if the price of music was sold for content instead of "influence" or "sales", the Beatles would be free in my world. |

| and I've listened to their entire discography.. I'll never understand the appeal of their silly pop music when a true musical innovator like Captain Beefheart was making mind-blowing music by just a few years later. |

A widely recognized and acclaimed composition, Trout Mask Replica was ranked #58 on Rolling Stone's 2003 list The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Allmusic's Steve Huey wrote that "its inspiring reimagining of what was possible in a rock context laid the groundwork for countless future experiments in rock surrealism, especially during the punk/new wave era."

The following passage is taken from a review of L**k My Decals Off by Lester Bangs - who is undisputedly the greatest American rock critic:
"I'm gonna go not so very far at all out on a limb and say that Captain Beefheart is the most important musician to rise in the Sixties, far more significant and far-reaching than the Beatles, who only made pretty collages with material from the public domain, when you get right down to it." |
