Hi guys. I got a new computer, its very nice and reliable. It has 600ish gigabytes of memory and 6 gigs of RAM, and from my last pc, i learned how to take care of it and not let it become a piece of crap. So my friend comes over and i let him use my laptop, and goes on to points2shop and downloads a TON of programs for him to get a new giftcard. I didnt know this until afterwards. Everything seemed okay, no spyware, no viruses or keylogs. Then I went on to steam.
I was downloading a game a while back but paused it for some reason i dont know anymore, and it was going at a pathetic rate of 100Kb/s. Idk what its like for you guys, but my pc downloads things at 1Mb/s. I was flipping tables. I go onto Can you run it and looked up a game to see if i could run it and see my pc's results my CPU speed dropped from 3.0 GHZ to 1.6 GHZ my RAM dropped from 6Gb to 364Mb.
I defragged, i removed the programs, but i just dont know how to fix this. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I dont know where else to go. |

| If your download speed is slow then its because of your modem. |

Aaah, this has happened to me.
1. Press WINDOWS KEY + R 2. Enter in "msconfig", hit enter 3. Go to Services, hit "Disable all" 4. Go to Startup, hit "Disable all" (This'll make your computer's startup much faster, the programs it lists /will/ boot up, but this makes it so when you startup you won't lag and the lag won't stick. Disabling the Services will have the same effect) 5. Press OK 6. Restart your computer to apply the changes
Have fun, OP. |

| Yeah, see, your RAM didn't actually go down, but rather it's being blanketed by all the services & startup items (The thing your friend did likely added in a BUTTLOAD). Just disable them and you'll be set to go. |

You regain your ram by deleting it. Have a nice day. |

| If modem/internet connecvtion isn't the problem, then just reformat or do a system restore. |

| Re-install Windows. Also just a little tip: Memory & RAM are the same thing. I think you mean hard disk space. |

It both increases speed and flow. Basically, the processes and startup items will come up periodically. It's only a matter of minutes. What happens is when you have the items in your startup, they'll all come up at once. This'll eat your speed right up and it'll stay that way. When you have them disabled, they'll come up one at a time. This also gets rid of the RAM blanketing. |
