| I agree on the basis that you know what your problems are, so plan accordingly. |

| The thing is, their insurance CAN help them rebuild it, if they purchased it. I got bashed for this belief quiet recently. |

I agree.
Let the local/state governments handle it.
It the tornados covered a large range of states, then the Federal Government could step in.
In this case, it is unnecessary. |

@Jhano- You're talking to somebody who believes that the Government should only be there to protect the rights of their citizens, not provide a cushiony place for them to live.
@Pepper-
I don't really think even then the government should step in, unless the state/local governments cannot adequately protect its citizens. |

| The federal government needs to fund the local government then. |

The local governments can fund themselves.
Thats the beauty of capitalism.
Also that is why their is a State tax. |

Capitalism doesn't say we can't share. Any way NZ is one big united state why does america have to be split up. That's how civil war starts. |

"Capitalism doesn't say we can't share."
Sharing implies that it's voluntary. |

-.-
America is a federation, not a confederation.
Anyway, England is a single state and IT had a civil war.
The federal authority is more powerful than state, but comes to a point, just like state authority.
What the federal government is suppose to do is stated in the preamble of the constitution.
Also an article within the constitution states that anything not said in the constitution is reserved for the states.
If something happens like an attack from another country, that is an attack on not just that state, but the entire nation.
But if it is a natural disaster like the tornados, that is a problem for that state. The federal government has more important matters to deal with. I can tell you, the states do a better job at organizing these things than the federal government can ever do. |

@jhanto
If you are sharing out of your own will, that is good.
If the government forces you to share, that is communism and tyrannical |

@jhanto
Government forcing you to share also implies taking most of your income in taxes and gives it to itself.
in a communist system they say they give it to the 'poor' but really its given to the dictator and his buddies

| But I say when tragedy strikes a nation the goverment can't just sit there and pretend it's someone elses problem. And no I don't support forced sharing. |

"strikes a nation"
It has to affect the whole nation, not just one state such as the tornadoes. |
