Yay! Let's work on a missile that could destroy the world 2x over!

I'm thinking of a railgun that could go around the world 8x over. Who's with me?

There would be NO recoil. Railguns basically accelerates a slug to high speeds, hence no recoil. That's why 'railguns' are different than normal guns, besides the electromagnetic part. Speaking of electromagnets, using electromagnets instead of gunpowder is also another reason why it wouldn't have any recoil.

| Its electro magnetic. The way it works is like the super-fast trains in France and Germany ect..... all the magnetic force is being pushed onto a single object, creating a magnetic recoil (no harm, just magnetic waves bouncing back). Or it works by charging the rail inside the gun so that it propells the object. Take a powerful magnet, a dime and a thin table, or a flat surface. Put the dime ontop of the table, and the magnet under it and swing the magnet to the end of the table. The dime flys off, and you don't feel any recoil. Although the dime will probably just drop to the ground with this experiment, if you added the pulse that the gun has, it would go 100 miles :P |

"The recoil force exerted on the rails is equal and opposite to the force propelling the projectile"
Wikipedia'd, not a great source blah blah blah but still. I dont think railguns are magic that breaks laws of physics |

I think the Pentagon is BSing us.
Weren't we supposed to have the NEXT GENERATION ASPLODING JET OF EXTREEEEEME BRO-NESS F22 F35 by now? Its no where to be seen over a combat zone.
Next, the MoD promised us invisible tanks. I see none. |

| I am sorry but lasers have their effects. Its a giant pulse of deadly energy with no guidances. One misfire and boom, that carrier you wanted gone, yeah, its still there, but we wiped out a refugee camp. |

All a railgun is doing. Is that, the projectile goes through a narrow TUBE, and then, whilst it's travelling inside, it's accelerating to supersonic speeds.
In a normal gun, the explosion inside the barrel would cause the recoil, and the air inside the barrel would also cause the recoil. However, in a railgun, it would just be the same as a car going down the road accelerating to supersonic speeds.
That's why you see railguns have really long tubes with another tubes alongside it that would be the electro-magnets.
