Lower welfare pay and put a year long cap on it, and increase minimum wage. Done and dusted.

An increase in minimum wage wouldn't help anyone.

Jhano the problem can't be summed up that easily. Welfare is viewed differently everywhere. The Germans consider being on welfare as a mark of shame. The Americans consider it as a birth right to not do any work.

The easiest solution would be to orchestrate a cataclysmic culture shift. But that can't be done.

But statistically about 99% of workers already earn more than the minimum wage. Who will it help?

Minimum wage, from an economic standpoint, creates unemployment. It can't actually force people to pay their workers more. Rather, it shaves off the bottom echelon of wage-earners. McDonald's employees may earn more after minimum wage than before, but there are fewer positions. If your work is worth $5 an hour to me, I won't hire you.

Like Martin Luther King Jr once said,"If you mop a floor, mop it like it was never moped before." Basically no matter what you do, take pride in it. All men are created equal but we need Janitors and garbage men just as much as we need lawyers and doctors.
