You better not be in Virginia.

Teachers will protest that to, you know. They hate school just as much as you do. |

I'm glad they aren't extending my school year by 2 weeks. My school year for my state/county is already 184 days.

@Sonic: That doesn't even make sense! If you're going to argue the fact that American public schools are some of the worst in the world, then at least say something relevant. |

| We don't need longer years or days of school, we need students and teachers who apply themselves. |

@Tsugrad: You can't just force that to happen, however. You need other measures in place. Personally, I think we should just completely get rid of "summer break", since it's just an excuse for kids to vegetate all summer. |

@solidhead3
But that isn't the answer either. Than the current staff and students of schools would "protest" it, education would actually go down the drain. We just need to shorten it, not cut it completely. |

We need summer break. Most of the US already spends 9-10 months doing school work. Summer break is for relaxing and having a break from all the school work. I would hate it if you were president, or any where in congress of the US or state.

@n00b
It doesn't need to be shortened either. We spend 9-10 months during school work so we need that 2 months away.

@n00by: Education is already killing itself. Personally, I feel the first step is of course getting rid of teacher's unions that work to make sure no one gets fired, but that'll never happen, since unions have too many connections. |

@solidhead3 We need Summer break- though it could be shorter. Summer break is our time of relaxing. Though, yes, you do have a point there. Maybe two and a half months instead of three?two months? Spring break could be a little bit longer, therefore everybody gets a long break. I honestly think, if we were to do away with summer break, we should even it out into shorter breaks throughout the schoolyear.There would be about a 1-month break inbetween schoolgrades. Do you think that would work? I believe sschooldays could be about 30 minutes longer, at most. |

My school never used a snow day this year D:
That's like 5 extra days. |

Tsugrad has a point. 2 month summer break is fine. The only solution we should have is just making the school day longer by 15-30 minutes.

@Shadow Your school makes you go to school for not using snow days? Mine lets you get off for those days. We get school off on snowday makeups if we donm't use them. |

@shadow
Same here. We had like over 10 snow days and didn't make up any days. This year, they're too hesitant to cancel school. The only day school was cancelled this year was that there was a little bit of flooding on the first week of school. For the snow, only 2 hour delays.

@Tsu: Yes, that's exactly where I'm getting at. Eliminate that nonsensically long "Summer Break" and spread the three months evenly into other shorter breaks. Perhaps (politically correct mode: begin) Winter Holiday could be slightly longer. Spring break? It's tradition to keep it only one week, but I suppose making it longer wouldn't hurt...
@"Time to relax" Your job won't give you "feel good" time, why should school? The point of a school is to give you the knowledge & skills for when you're set into the real world, giving you a massive break & pretending there's no such thing as "failure" isn't going to help you much. |

@solid
Jobs are where adults are. Adults make money from their jobs. If they just had summer break off, we won't get that much money. Since kids don't really get high paying jobs, it doesn't affect us. My mom is a teacher and my dad works at CTC. He works year round so he can make money to give us everything we need. My mom gets a summer break off for being a teacher.

@Finn: Way to complete ignore the fact that a school should prepare you for real-life! Doesn't matter if working is for "adults", the shool is still supposed to prepare you for that! |
