| There is strictly no best operating system for development. What matters is the IDE, if you use one. The operating system does not matter at all. |

| As for the IDE, I don't suggest using Visual Studio. You should go back to Code::Blocks. |

| Code::Blocks is the worst thing I've ever seen, personally. |

| If you really want to learn how things work and save yourself some pain in the future when you run into hard to otherwise solve linkage issues, you could just work right from the command line + write your own makefiles. |

| And if you are working from the command line, you might as well use a nice UNIX-based system. (Linux, or even Mac, :o) |

| It depends on which os you want to make games/programs for. Use windows for windows, linux for linux. This just simplifies compilation. |

| Visual Studio is good, I've no idea why Julian said return to Code::Blocks. I'm not saying either is better than the other because I've never used Code::Blocks, but visual studio has never had any problems for me before. |

@Pighead,
He told one person to use Eclipse yesterday. I don't think he can decide which one to use. |

...
I use Eclipse, because I don't solely develop in C and C++. This user said he has already used Code::Blocks in the past, so it'd be more simple for him to use Code::Blocks again than to use another IDE.
As he said, he is learning to code in C++. Might as well let him choose an IDE he's used to instead of one he never even heard about. Then, later on, he can switch if he wants to. |
