I am trying to create a group fort. I have created 3 working teams that work how I want them to. However, every time I attempt to insert a free model script for a payday, my teams don't work and neither to my spawn locations work correctly. So, I'm left with two options:
1. Build a script from scratch around the teams I have built. Unfortunately, I have absolutely NO IDEA how to do that.
Or...
2. Modify the free script. It includes two GUI's, a donate and a payday countdown, along with a payday script that goes like this:
--Put both GUIs in the startergui --Set your group ID below --Keep this in workspace. Set time for the interval in seconds you want people to be paid out, and below change the values of what they get if they are in your clan or not.
function onPlayerEntered(newPlayer) wait(0.5) local stats = Instance.new("IntValue") stats.Name = "leaderstats" local cash = Instance.new("IntValue") cash.Name = "Credits" cash.Value = 500 cash.Parent = stats stats.Parent = newPlayer end
game.Players.PlayerAdded:connect(onPlayerEntered)
time = 150
while true do wait(1) time = time - 1 if (time == 0) then time = 180 players = game.Players:GetChildren() for i=1, #players do if (players[i]:findFirstChild("leaderstats")) then if (players[i]:IsInGroup(219182)==true) then players[i].leaderstats.Credits.Value = players[i].leaderstats.Credits.Value + 100 else players[i].leaderstats.Credits.Value = players[i].leaderstats.Credits.Value + 50 end end end end playersa = game.Players:GetChildren() for i=1, #playersa do playersa[i].PlayerGui.PaydayGui.TextLabel.Text = "Time until next payday: " .. tostring(time) end end
I am hoping there is an even simpler solution I am over looking. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If for some reason you feel like this doesn't belong in Scripting Helpers, get over it and move on. I don't need people telling me I am not needed. |

| It's a trick question. The answer is: Read the Roblox wiki, and learn how to script. http://wiki.roblox.com/ |

| I have the rest of todays to make a working place. I don't have a month of reading internet articles to learn how to use a skill that I'm going to use for a total of an hour of my life. Like I said, if what you have to say isn't productive, I don't care for your opinion. |

Agreed with UFAIL. Free models stink. What makes you think we'll help you on something you put no effort into? Start working on a script, even if you are a beginner, and THEN expect help.
Even though I have only learned Lua last year, by simply NOT using free models, I have created my own guns, admin commands, bots, etc.
Even when I played Roblox when I was 9 I didn't use free models. I'm so pure :3 Follow my advice and do it the smart way. In life, you gotta do things your self sometimes. |

| That wasn't my opinion; it was my answer. We are not slaves here. We help, but we don't create. |

| See this is why the forums are pointless. Everybody who answers them are a bunch of butthurt kids who are so self absorbed in their work to even help me figure out how to begin a script. I'm not asking you to build a script. All I am asking is to help solve the problem of how to put teams into a script. What do you care if I use free models? They are there for a reason you know. I am not asking you to build it, because I already have it. I am asking what to do with it. I really could care less what you guys do. That's great that you can script - but I can't. That's why I come to a thread called "Scripting Helpers." So I can get help scripting. What's the point of the thread if all you're going to reply is "Learn how to script n00bzers LOLOLOL"? |

"Scripting helpers- need help with a script you are writing?"
You obviously aren't asking for help with a script you are writing. Also, we are trying to help get you started. I gave some advice, Ufail gave a link. And, I think learning Lua, a whole scripting language, would help for more than an hour.

| Sorry, not everbody dedicates their time to scripting. I am in highschool and have extracirriculuar activities everyday, and I don't have time to use this alot. So yeah, it would be for an hour. I don't want to build anything complicated, I just want to help out my friend (yes I know more about scripting than him - sad huh?). Plus, I have tried that wiki place multiple times in the past, It does not tell me anything nearly specificic enough to write anything more complicated than a script to kill yourself. |

| You shouldn't be coding for 'a friend' if you can't code. Clearly, you haven't got past the 'Absolute beginner's guide to scripting', without copy and pasting the code.. |

These two have a point, but they're being extremely irrational.
to them; chill. You've said your piece, obviously you aren't giving the answer he's looking for. so don't say anything else.
I see where you're coming from, with the extra cirricular activities remark. I started to learn to script at the end of grade 7. Now I'm a grade 9 and I STILL don't know how to script like a pro; there's a lot of stuff to learn, and you can't expect to learn it all like 1+1.
But even learning the basics, if you know what to learn, gives you so much freedom. It's well worth the time. take a look at the wiki. If all you manage is to make an onTouch door, I don't care, just LEARN TO SCRIPT SOMETHING. after that, maybe I can offer some tutoring.
you have to understand... Scripting on ROBLOX has become very elitist. So many people have learned to copy and paste broken scripts from free models and make sh***y games that SOMEHOW top the "most popular now" list. back in the good old days, scripters were GODS, and always topped the heap.
Sometimes, you just can't expect that attitude to change. There will always be some deep resentment and hatred between the scripters and free modelers. THAT's why this forum is the way it is.
So yeah. Just read some tutorials, take notes. I can help teach a bit through personal messages or steam chat. and trust me, the limits of your ROBLOX building skill will diminish and your boundries will expand before you know it.
*whew* Ok, think I've said my piece.
have fun trolling.
