This thread is a tribute to British IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon, killed in a 15 car accident at the 2011 Las Vegas 300. The double Indy 500 winner was the first British driver to do so since Graham Hill in 1966. He turned down a test driver role for the BMW Sauber Formula 1 team in 2008 to continue his IndyCar career. His final IndyCar race win came in the 2011 Indy 500, just a couple of months before he died aged just 33
I would like this thread to be a tribute to not only a great driver, but a great person as well |

The inquest of his death has concluded that he was hit by a fence pole and killed. This is sickening, something from the 50s, not 2011
INDYCAR should have seen it coming. It was an accident waiting to happen (even 1993 Indycar champion Nigel Mansell says so) due to too many cars on a track that's too small |

| The last F1 fence pole incident I can remenber was in 1981 when a fence pole was catapulted into the catch fencing in a major accident involving one of the arrows cars, I can't remember where that was though |

What a disrespetful post. Leave now.
We miss Dan wheldon over here in England, was such a prospect, should have gone to F1 when he had the chance. |

| There have been many pole related injuries, such as Paul Warwick's fatal crash in 1991. |

| It wasn't disrespectful, nor intended to be disrespectful, all I was saying was that we already knew about it. So this thread wasn't neccessary. |

"But how would you like it if someone close to you died and someone came up to you and said "Omfg we knew this ages ago"?" that only works if i go around telling people that someone close to me died which i don't |
