I have played both games, and here are my opinions on both of them:
I am ADDICTED to terraria at the moment, it is a VERY fun game, in fact, i think i am going to be addicted to it more than minecraft! It is very fun, and unlike minecraft, there are SO MANY ITEMS to get! So much however, i thought there was WAY too much in the game. This game is just flooding with items and the thing is, you are going to get barely any in the first half of the game, and the flooded with random crap in the second. On top of that ,unlike minecraft, i found this game really frustrating. The game itself is great, don't get me wrong but the AI is stupid, and it gets EXTREMELY frustrating comsidering you have to LIVE WITH THEM! I went mining on the game and found My guide stuck in one of my underground mineshafts, and because of its stupid AI, it REFUSED to move out of the shaft (It was at night and its AI tells it at night, it should stay as close to its room as possible). So i spent 15 minutes getting him out of there. Another thing is that there are some SERIOUS issues with the block mechanics. I don't know WHY the game will just ALLOW you to place blocks on YOURSELF, So you basically get crushed by rocks and die, not to mention it is IRRITATING AS HELL when you accidentally do things like that. Next of all, i found this game a little tedious at the beginning. Things are scattered all over the map so it is extremely easy to miss things, not to mention that items you get from chests or vases depend on how high or low you are in the layers of the game, Not based on your Experience nor your mana/ hearts. This means that i CONTINUOUSLY get the SAME items from places, making the first half of the game kinda boring. That also means that because beginners need to go LOWER into the game to get better stuff, that means they need better stuff to begin with, that means they need to mine. And unfortunately, mining in this game doesn't feel all that satisfying. You mine down for ages and ages, and since this is the first half of the game, you get SIMILAR ores as BEFORE. I think this is because the world is too deep, which makes mining seem really unsatisfactory. That and the fact that you do not know how much of an ore you need to make a particular item, and you find yourself constantly checking the WIKI to find answers unlike minecraft where you could have a good guess and half the time, you got the right combination.
Minecraft on the other hand hasn't got MERELY as much as terraria in items, however it makes up for it in gameplay. Minecraft just has a better feel overall, the weapons aren't overpowered or underpowered, you can use your wicked cunning to get over obsticles and you actually feel something for this game. You feel helpless at the start of this game and you feel like a total bad a** when you finish it. You get scared of the mobs in this because you know how they are. The sounds the mobs make really make you feel vulnerable and scared, as if you will die any second. And in a way, minecraft doesn't waste your time. It doesn't force you to grind a bunch of coins out of monsters to get the most awesome weapon from a merchant after you make a new home for him, and even if you DO get like an enchanted sword in minecraft, the game still makes you feel as vulnerable as before. I think the play time on terraria is at least DOUBLE minecrafts just because of THIS ONE FACTOR. Animals are completely unique in this game because the behave completely differently, and i think that is where minecraft wins over terraria. Minecaft looses in the battles and the buying of items, however triumphs in game feel and the creativity. You have a whole array of emotions for this game, and that's why it wins.
Overall terraria is a really fun game, i really like it. But what i said before wasn't bull. The game can get frustrating and it is repetitive on the first half of the game. I am not saying minecraft is perfect (Its far from it), as many of its features could be improved like the transitioning biomes or the ores to find in this game could be updated. But minecraft is just...amazing.
Well guys, that is my review on both of them. Please note that this is MY OPINION, and this is no where near fact, as no opinions are. This is just what i think. |

| Who cares about the items? It's about the gameplay. Sure, collecting items is fun and all, but the adventure part is more worth it. |

| I love how you say Terrarias AI is bad when all the Minecraft AI does is follow you in a straight line. |

| As I haven't played Minecraft, can I point out the several factual flaws in your Terraria review? |

Disconnecting and reconnecting makes the guide reappear in his room. So does moving far away from his room in some occasions.
"Another thing is that there are some SERIOUS issues with the block mechanics. I don't know WHY the game will just ALLOW you to place blocks on YOURSELF, So you basically get crushed by rocks and die, not to mention it is IRRITATING AS HELL when you accidentally do things like that."
Even if that was possible without you purposely performing a glitch or being an idiot, only sand and silt damage you like that. Meteorite and hellstone damage you if you touch them without an Obsidian Skull equipped.
Everything else I disagreed with was subjective, like the tediousness and unsatisfactoriness of mining and the strange concept that you should find better items in chests depending on your current amount of hearts. It took some thought to determine what was subjective and what was objective. At the time of my stating you had several errors, I was counting most of my opinions as objective ones. |
