Do you mean those giant coloured ball meshes?
Anyways, a good thing that people ALWAYS forget when making those solar system adventure games, is what's called the "Plain of the eliptical", which makes all the planets revolve around the sun on the same, flat axis.
Instead they have planets spralled out randomly, above, below and beside one-another. |

| Because you need to play with the mesh's scale, not the brick's scale. Make the brick 1,1,1 and the mesh say... 500,500,500? |

Build everything on the platform first then CFrame the globe on later. set the globes Y value to the same as the base it goes around and make sure the globe is large enough to cover the baseplate.Set properties of globe to cannotcollide. Then write a script that moves the planets around in an eliptical motion. |

"Build everything on the platform first then CFrame the globe on later."
Actually, that makes it impossible for any players to be able to build on the baseplate, if of course that's what the OP is thinking about doing.
Really, all you need is a brick with a ball mesh. NOT a sphere brick, they are different.
Then in Explorer open up the brick with the ball mesh and click it. Now in Properties you'll see "Scale", change that to how-ever big you want the planet. Keep the actual brick size to 1,1,1.
You know what, I'll just make a model of it and post it here, as it seriously only takes one minute to make. |

Here:

Just go into the model via Explorer and change the colour of the bricks in Properties to change the planet colour |

*sigh* guess this will be hard. well, here we go: -change the baseplate size to the size you want (ALWAYS SQUARE) -insert a 2x2 PLATE and put it just above the baseplate, right in the middle of it. -select the new part on the explorer an go to insert>object>specialmesh. -select the mesh. -change meshtype to sphere -change scale to 70 more than your baseplate(f.ex., if your base is 300x300(x0.4, of course), change scale to 370,370,370. -if the baseplate corners still pop out of the sphere, make scale bigger. -you will have a planet. it is like the ones in solar conquest, it is a walk-through sphere with a baseplate to build.
WHY YOU CAN'T MAKE ROUND COLLAPSE PLANETS:
ROBLOX has no dynamic gravity, that means your character will allways fall down, unless a brick blocks it.on a round planet, you would only be able to use the upper half, as you would fall when going to the lower half. with Dynamic Gravity, you would be able to shift gravity towards a model or brick rather than always down. |

If you want to CFrame go to this thread, theopfor's CFraming Guide;
http://www.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=59292203
It explains CFraming really well. |

Umm...
We could be much more informative on how to do it than Surge could ever be.
They've all provided an explanation.
The model is the best actually, because you can take it, study it, and mess around with it. After studying and editing it, you should have remembered enough about it to create your own. |

| Take a free model one and learn how it works. Then create your own. |
