On an average day at school, for example.
Recently, I realised I had a lot of the "gaming addiction" symptoms, and calculated the time I actually spent coding compared to the time I spent on league of legends, which worked out about in a 1:3 ratio. Every day, I would come back from school, play a few games (note these games are 45 mins each) then code for a bit. As soon as I got stuck, if a friend was online I would immediately join him on league of legends or try and work out the problem. If I couldn't work out the problem within ~10 mins, I would ask someone for help (sorry stravant) and convince myself I couldn't possibly do anything else until someone replies, and play games until then.
I experimented yesterday - no league of legends games before tea, and no asking for help. There were a few problems I had to use google for, one I had to use stackoverflow for, but I achieved more than usual but still wasn't satisfied because it was slow work (does anyone else have this? "I'll just make this today..." then after the first stage realise you have taken 3 hours). I played league of legends for 2 hours and was making a framework in C++ for 2.5 hours that day.
Is this common, or am I wasting my time? |

You're not, trust me. On school days I program for about 6-7 hours, and for weekends I will at the most program for about 9-10 hours.
I have a life, don't I? |

| Every programmer/coder/being/scripter/lady gaga/justin being/ thing/it/E.T/blah gets small breaks while doing what they do, it just goes automaticly, unless there's something special or cool involved/going to happen/blah it won't break the pauzes, if it isn't special or blah then you should take more often pauses and such. |

| An hour maybe. On other days not at all. School just takes up too much time and when I'm not at school (and it's not a vacation) I have very little desire to work. |

| I don't program in school, and I don't really program all that much outside of school. I simply can't find anything interesting/challenging that is possible with my knowledge. Such as graphics... |

I used to play DotA for 16+ hours a day. As for coding, I used to code for around 3-4 hours a day, tops. Unless there was something that I really wanted to get done.

Mostly 30 minutes to 2 hours working on debugging my code or expanding it to be better.
Games is like only an hour or 2 but I multi-task a lot...So. |

Hmmmm... I believe I'm going to spend a few hours today working on some utility libraries. Oh, yes, I don't code often, but I code for very long periods of time when I do code. |

My n00b parents limit me to 2hr/weekday and 3hr/weekends, so... I can't really do anything. When I'm on the computer, I will mostly code.

At work, I code about 2 hours a day (2 hours of solid coding) of PHP, HTML (not a boat), and SQL.
On weekends, and not at work, I try to get 1 hour of coding a day. Sometimes I just game, and sometimes I do other important stuff. |

| I can't really find my time in average because it changes so often. Sometimes, 2-3 hours and other times 5-6. I don't even code at all sometimes. I remember when I spent 14 hours straight working on my gun and had roblox nightmares, lol. No life ftw! |

I only code on weekends.
Any free time I get on weekdays usually ends up being wasted playing BF3, foruming, or practicing my viola.

Im currently having lack of motivation which means i wiped the dust off my ps3 and played mw2 for a week. Before and after that i just browsed roblox forums and played a roblox game or 2 once in a while. This was caused by not having internet for a bit over a week btw (???)
After i have motivation again, i might continue on my roblox place which im currently working on (though i probably want roblox to make the terrain makejoints properly and hopefully fix the billboardgui studsoffset not taken into account when testing depth problem)
Or i might write a few lines of my c++ game or decide to use an existing engine and make a fail sandbox using it.
Generally i just fix a bug or 2 or write a few lines and then browse or play games, but if i start working on a new feature ill spend the whole day trying to get it work and fix the bugs and add features to it and maybe even more than 1 day. |

| By "wasting my time" I mean "playing games too much instead of coding", by the way. Coding is not wasting my time! |

~7½/8 hours sleep ~2½hrs eating + drinking + pauzes from school (might be lower if a class falls out and other school stuf...blah..blah too hard 4 u guys to understand) ~3 hrs contacts sozializing, talking with others, playing outside etc. ~1 hour sport (not always because I don't sport always) ~7 hours school (depends each day and if classes fall out and blah blah...)
The rest pretty much comes up computering wich means coding/gaming/talking (foruming, twitter with other friends, Hyves...blah) |
