36?
I've never actually learned this yet, but I think I understand pedmas
I didn't know quite what to do with the 12 from 9+3 though
so I just added it to 24 which is 48/2 |

| It is 24. Your Calculator does not do Order of Operations. |

Well, according to the order of operations (PEMDAS) the order you must evaluate expressions is in this order: Parentheses Exponents Multiplication/Division (do whichever comes first) Addition/Subtractions (do whichever comes first)
So, it would be as follows: 48÷2(9+3) - First you solve the parentheses 48÷2(12) - The parentheses simplifies to multiplication 48÷2*12 - Now you do the division first, since it came before the multiplication 24*12 - Just multiply together to get the answer 288
Now, the reason your calculator doesn't get it right is because you type it in all in at once, so it solves it as you type it in.
Understand?
Any questions? |

Dude...it's 2.
I have done Algebra class and I'm halfway through Geometry.
We even do stuff like: 67x+56=546(6X4) (of course, that was Algebra). Now we just do lots with theorems like Hypotenuse-Leg and blah...

Every time I see one of these, I bang my head on the table a little more.
1) 48÷2(9+3) Alright, so we're at the problem. Cool.
2) 48÷2(12) PEMDAS (or BODMAS, if you're unique) says to do things inside parentheses (or brackets) first.
3) 48÷2(12) There are no exponents, so we can skip that step.
3) 24(12) This is where many screw up. The next part of PEMDAS (BODMAS) is MD (DM), which basically means, from LEFT to RIGHT, you multiply or divide. 48/2 is farther to the left than 2(12), so we do 48/2 FIRST. OKAY?
4) 288 We have your answer. |

48÷2(9+3)
well
using PEMDAS you can simplify it to
48÷2*12
which we can simplify to
24*12
which equals 288 |

the mistake people are making is multiplying 2 by 12
which is incorrect, because it's the wrong order of operations |

(I know this wasn't directed to me, but I now know how to do this thanks to you)
oh i see
so for the parentheses you do them then add it in as multiplication? |
