If you didn't see this in the other horror game thread then here it is, if you did see it then just disregard this post.
What makes a good horror game
Pop ups are a NO for a good horror game. All pop ups do is show that the games creator is desperate to make their game work and pop ups usually end up being dumb and stupid. Also, just showing rooms with scary scenes won't do much by themselves, for a horror game to work you'll need to set the mood.
A good example of what would be a key aspect of horror games would be the SA-X from Metroid Fusion (if you haven't played this game I would recommend that you download a rom of it and do so, it's a good game). After you get a little into the game you have your first encounter with the SA-X, an enemy who has the best of your abilities and is the embodiment of evil. This creates this feeling that you are being stalked all throughout the game, that there's something out there that is stronger than you, something evil that is hunting you. It creates this feeling of helplessness in the player, that anything could happen at any minute and that their arch enemy could be anywhere at any moment. This feeling of hopelessness and sheer horror are key parts of any good horror game. Of course the sound effects are also important and should not be overlooked.
One scary song playing in the background is not enough for a good horror game, despite what some may think. A good horror game needs to include a variety of sound effects to be played as needed. Unfortunately roblox does not allow users to upload sounds which is a major roadblock. Fortunately by lowering the pitch of a sound the sound players slower, deeper and darker. By lowering the pitch of different sounds you can alter them in a way so that you can use them, finding the right ones to use may prove tricky though.
tl;dr:
Mood of helplessness, horror, evil. No pop ups. Sound effects!
Hope that helps. The crucial and usually overlooked parts of a good horror game.

I typed it once and now I've got it saved in my documents lol. WHEN I become a wiki writer I'll post it there, of course I'll edit it a little and make sure that it's at top percentage! |

What.
The.
HECK.
That's not even all that much to type if you're typing quickly and efficiently enough.
In any case, though, start out with something immediately scary. Running away from some insidious shadow, etc. After that slowly fall into simple exploration. Add a few things here and there to keep them on their toes, like bloodstains and the occasional pop out (They're very good when used correctly). Lull them into a false sense of security with, say, a way out or an end to the scariness, then trap them in. Have the shadows rise up from the very floor itself, creeping for the player. The player must run away again, but this time shadows will come from every corner, sometimes creeping up directly behind when the player reaches a dead end. It's always good to end with something to make the player feel there was a happy ending, but leave little clues that it's not actually over. Like in the Robloxian version of FEAR (not the stupid group) where once you finally escape and make it to the hospital the beast is waving at you from a distance away, with you the only one who can see it. Having scary things where you can see them but can't get to them and then having them disappear once you get to that area is insanely creepy. |

| A great way to set the scene is to make the place dark. Change the Ambience in the Lighting to achieve this effect. This also works if you change the Time of Day. |
