I was out back shooting cans with my new air-soft Desert Eagle the other day. Then this dog that has been attacking all the other neighborhood dogs walks up to my dog. I do not know if it has an owner or not. It growled at her, so I tried to shoo it away. Then it growled at me. I aimed the gun at it, not wanting to hurt it, just shoot near it to scare it away. I shot. It hit a discarded Pepsi can. I hoped the loud noise would scare it off, but instead it stepped closer. I had no choice but to get it away, so I aimed for a foot this time.
Now believe me, this thing has good stopping power for an air-soft gun. It's power is good enough to be the DE of the air-soft pistol world. I love animals, and I would never try to harm one. I was waiting for a good moment to take the shot, but the dog showed it's teeth and jumped at my dog. I shot it. Instead of the foot like I wanted it too, it impacted in the chest. It lands on the ground with a yelp of pain. He is whimpering, blood dripping out. It's a mess. Luckily, it did not penetrate too far. I could see that much It runs away after I try to get near it.
Hopefully, it's just a stray that hangs out in our neighborhood. If the police or anyone else confront me on this, it was self-defense. My dog got a few scratches from the dog, so that is my proof.

If it was self-defence for you & your dog you can't get sued. I would of done the same thing if it happened to any of my two dogs.
But, this is on the wrong forum.

@Dark
I haven't been shooting for too long. My aim is not the best, though.

I guessed that part. ;p It was either shoot it or your dog gets mauled. Easy choice there. |

A dog can be easily handled with your hands... Well... Depends on what kind of dog it was. |

1: I'm not sure it was a stray 2: It did not die. It ran away after I shot it.

trolol.
No it's self defence really. You're probably allowed to kill an animal if it tries to hurt you. |

If you were defending yourself and your dog from an unprovoked attack, I would say youre safe.
If you shot the dog for the fun of it, no.
So I'd say youre probably safe. |

Escuse me one one sec while I calculate the momentum/speed required for a small plastic pellet to go through a dog's skin...
I can tell you this, your gun shoots FAST. |

@Pat
I wanted a Desert Eagle for cosmetic sake. I did not know that it carried magnum style stopping power...
@Dan
Yeah, but better it than my dog...

Maybe you should ask the neighbors or your parents..
They should be aware this happened. |

You're ok. The dog came on your property, growled at your dog and then at you, and then leaps at your dog.
You won't get in trouble for shooting it. And if the dog has been attacking other dogs around there, then people will also confirm it and stand up for you.
You'll be ok. Good thing that wasn't me though. I wouldn't have bothered shooting it. I would have attacked it with my hands, and the outcome would have been much worse.
That is why I don't own a dog, and I keep my cat indoors. |

@Restricting
My mother and my next door neighbor (who owns like 4 dogs) are aware and they insist that nothing will happen. My neighbor has conformed that the dog does belong to a man that lives down the street though. The man has had animal control at his door more than once in the past.
