I dunno if this is the right forum but

oh well

atm in my place TF2:RE all melee weapons work as you'd expect - if the weapons hits someone, that's a hit.

but in the real TF2, what ACTUALLY happens is it fires a "melee" bullet down the cursor that vanishes after a few feet, and that's what deals the damage. It's why TF2 melee weapons are hilariously unrealistic.

my question is, which method is better? Should I switch to the "official" method?

I like the TF2 way better. Sounds hilarious and always feeds the lolololers and the raaaaaagers.

Melee bullets, its why hitting a wall with the Boston Basher does nothing.

Could have pop up messages
Like
-Miss (You didn't hit anything) *Does no damage*
-Parry (You and your emeny attacked at the same time) *Does no damage*
-Blocked (Your attacked was blocked by the emeny's shield)*Does no damage*
-Hit ! (No.) (Your hit your target !) *Does random damage.E.g 5-20
-Critical ! (You hit your target in a weak spot) Does double random damage e.g 60-124
Preemptive ! (Attacked emeny from behind) *Does double random damage*

You could have combos 2.
Hope this helps,just some ideas you could think bout when building.
It hasn't really been made expect for rpg's and not very well made and only had half of the points i made (Miss and hit)

I no,i said that in my post if you read nearing the end of it. I stated i could be points you consider when making you weapons AFTER the descicion was made.
The 1st one is (What i gathered) the orginal method,where you click the left button and the sword goes move in a certain direction (Mosly 90o) which is quite boring as most people walk into it,jump over ,still take damage and really overused.
The 2nd one sounds like it won't work really,you could end up hitting someone from far away : /


Here's a unqie but very complex idea never before seen (well i haven't) you Hold down the left button and 'Draw a line' the line glows red or whatever colour .
So any formation of you make the sword moves (The point of the sword follows the path)
E.g -------- Straight line attack
Better unusal attack

Anyway so you could have an attack and you move your sword in a W Z or T whaever you think of formation

Thats fine then,i never really posted (Though sorry if it looks like it) to get you to use my ideas.I posted them for people to look at them and say what they think,usually the creator of the thread and give you new ways of thinking how you can sovle the problem creativity.

I know,but it's very unrealistic if someone jumps through your sword and dies or every time you attack it does damage.I would like to see sword fighting alot more challeging and more creativite,most swords just attack in a 90o motion : /

Make it a small region3.

That is checked only when you hit.


Or it could be a flat one in front of you if you can spin the sword around crazily.

Not bad.But I seriously recommend to adjust the melee bullet to it's range of the melee weapon.

Ok, pros and cons of switching to melee bullets:

Pro 1) More like TF2
Pro 2) Less lag
Pro 3) You hit directly where you click

Con 1) Harder to use
Con 2) Less realistic
Con 3) More work for sdfgw

Wouldn't it be most realistic to use a touched event and then when fired, raycast from the character to see if you can actually hit the person?
