| Yes , I am new to scripting and if put this thread in the wrong section, I'm sorry. But what does math have to do with scripting I am only asking this because I have just started reading the scripting wiki. |

| There are math functions, and many values having to do with numbers. |

You can use MATH functions for A LOT OF THINGS!
But before I tell you what they can do I need to know are you in
math pre algebra algebra geometry --etc
Which one? Because there are some basic things and some really advanced math functions. |

Hmmm..Well, honestly, I'm not sure all the math functions you know. Because I'm in pre algebra. But I'll give you a simple example.
math.random()
This is a math function. What it does is well, it put something random :l
I think of it as a fraction, for this simple example
while true do wait(1) game.Workspace.Brick.Color = Color3.new(math.random(),math.random(),math.random()) end
Every second, the color will change to a random color. So think of it this way
There is maybe 80 colors. Idk how much but lets just say that.
For every second it changes ar random, so think of it lik
1 --- 80
It randomly chooses one brick out of 80. Make sense? |

alg2 is 11 grade, correct? Kewl, so you should know all of them except maybe: fmod modf frexp ldexp log log10 cosh sinh tanh deg rad random randomseed exp huge
All of which are relatively easy to learn. |

Not all schools teach math the same. My school's standard is Algebra 2 Freshman year in highschool, and I'm taking Geometry as a Freshman.
A string is not related to math at all, actually, its simple a string of characters. Characters being letters, numbers, and special symbols such as '%' and '^'. |

Most of the scripting you'll do won't have to do with math unless you want to make a script to systematically generate geometric shapes like circles, ellipses, spheres....
Though math.ceil and math.floor are good to know. The first one rounds any number up, and the second rounds any number down, except when the number is an integer (then, it stays the same). |

| More than just generating shapes, math is good for. In fact, Kiseki uses loads of math, and all it does is run a game. |

Yeah, dark is true though
You start in math go to prealgebra, algebra, gemometry, I think algebra 2 and so on...

My school is Pre-Alg, Alg1, Alg2, Geo, Pre-Calc, Calc.
Of course, since Alg1 is supposed to be for Freshmen, most people that take Pre-Alg at all end up taking Business Math instead of Pre-Calc. |

The amount of math involved varies with the application, however it's usually more logic than anything.

@miz I think he may not be familiar with the names math.huge and math.random, but once he gets told what they do and how to use them he will. |

| But yeah we go pre-alg, alg1, geometry, alg2/trig, pre-calculus, calculus AB or BC, and then the math geniouses might do differential equations. |

@Bunny
-_-
Learning math.huge isn't hard...You just have to know what infinity means...
Mine is everyone starts off with math, if you passed math you go into pre algebra. Since I'm in 7thgrade tht's as high as you can go :P
Unless you are in discovery. |

really most of the scripting i do i don't really use to much math if any (aside from basic adding subtracting, things a 1st grader could do). Its mostly logic.

It depends, what math function you wanna use. But yeah, you need math. It's very important. |
