I no longer have use for Roblox. I want to move on to Java and Mobile/Internet App development.

You do realize Java is not a command-lined language.

You know of anything else to use? How similar is ShiVa to Roblox?

Ah, I'm sorry, I thought you were wanting to start Java. I didn't know you were partially experienced.

Well, in my experience it is not very alike Roblox, but you can easely get used to it, it also comes with some example files, ie; Meshes, games, sounds, a physics engine, etc.

If you want to go all the way, and use a real professional engine you can use the Unreal Development Kit. It's completely free for non-commercial use, and even if you do end up doing something commercial with it you get the first $50,000 royalty free, and any more after that at a 25% royalty, with only a $99 commercial licence.

The UDK is a great place for big projects. Googling would find a variety of small scale ones.

No. You have to pay 99$ and then 25% of whatever you make on your commercial product, after the first 50,000$.

Stencyl, you can make iDevice and Flash apps using a Scratch-like programming environment, program AIs, and generally do a lot of awesome things.
Before you dismiss this as stupid (because of Scratch), they also have a programming API. For serious developers, they can even see the C++ code and edit it to their style. |

I've used Stencyl, but I would recommend against it if someone knows programming. It uses ActionScript which isn't a great language to begin with, but it's clearly not designed for any serious development. The biggest problem I see with it is that it, almost entirely, removes OOP from the picture. You cannot easily create new files, and Flash requires that the name of the file & the name of the class declared within match. It also is organized with named behaviors, so you can't directly make calls to other actors, and code-complete can't be created for it. It heavily utilizes Flixel, so you might as well just write your game from scratch using Flixel and a development environment (you can find some for free if you want to avoid the prohibitively expensive official tools).
I can't really recommend any tools that are similar to ROBLOX though (Block Community isn't yet done ;P), since I usually build games from just a graphics & audio library. |

Any toolkit designed to run on both the PC and Android is going to suck. Personally, I *hate* Unity, ShiVa, and Unreal. I simply wrote my own wrapper of OGLES.
