Korolevskii Station was abuzz with chatter as the sun was setting. The bright lights along the columns flickered to life by magic. The train was about to come huffing and puffing into the station any second, and the crowd was pacing with impatience. Women in lavish fur coats and hats holding their children's hands with care, and fathers with said children up on their shoulders, exclaiming things like "Look, Papa! I'm as tall as a frost giant!", and chuckles would come from both parents. Gentlemen glancing at their luxury pocket watches, poor families from the villages rummaging through their packs, actors with airs of pomposity, grumpy politicians, quiet monks, and the like. You can find a person from any walk of life here. You could shout "Is anyone here a former elf salesman" (elves were once a slave race, you see, but it became illegal), and at least twelve hands would raise and wave a bit... followed by the offensive gestures of any elves in earshot. I feel glad that the discrimination against elves is waning. They have the greatest sense of humor.

The trains arrived, steam billowing out of the smokestack into the frosty air outside. A great wave of people poured into the doors, and as the first train moves onward, half of the waiting crowd remains. My train from Sosul'ka to Derevo still hasn't arrived. I tap my foot. My friend Sergei has his gaze cast downward into a newspaper.
"Hmph" He mutters as he reads the headline. "Frost Giants Demanding Rights of Power in Winterland: Conflict Imminent."
"Sounds like a Cold War." I reply slyly.
"That's not even funny." He says, rolling his eyes and folding the newspaper beneath his arm.
We were almost the last people left. The train to Derevo was ten minutes late. We boarded and seated ourselves in the extravagant train, with every bit of luxury a Winterlander could ask for. As a capital, Sosul'ka has to make a good name for itself (often by luxuri-fying everything they possibly can to give the impression that they're filthy stinking rich). The king lives in a giant tower in the center of the city, overlooking the numerous denizens of his domain. It's not all it's said to be, I've heard; The castle is notoriously drafty... and it never goes above -4 C here.
The outer wall of the grand capital slipped by, and the vast expanse of northern Winterland stretched out like a carpet of snow, the occasional fir poking up here or there. The full moon was rising, casting shadows even at nighttime. The snow glittered brightly, almost mimicking the stars above. It would be an outright insult to call a Winterlandish night dark. Inside the train cabin, however, it was warmly lit. All an outsider could see of the train were small, bright yellow windows and silhouettes of faces... and the great cloud of snow that follows it.
"So yeah." I spoke, breaking the silence. "Frost Giants, eh?"
"They're essentially cliaming squatter's rights." Sergei replied with his normal cynical tone, fiddling with his water glass. "They were here before humans or elves, and therefore, it's their turf. That's their story."
"But they have their own plot of land. The Northern Ice Fields and the Skadi mountain range is theirs to rule, not to mention Niflheim."
The lady in the adjacent seat glanced at us awkwardly.
"Yeah, but if you had your own room, and all of a sudden, some punk that doesn't even look like you waltzes in and says 'this whooooole section is mine... and that little bit there is... yours, I guess', you'd be having a conniption!"
"Yes, yes, I realize that, but the land has been evenly divided. Northern third for the Frosties, the middle section for the humans, us, and the coasts for the elven people. The Frosties don't want to play nice?"
Sergei put on the voice of the radio announcer.
"Meanwhile, in Niflheim, king Ymir overhears some human punk blabbing on about how their politics sucks, and war is waged!"
He waves his hands about and semi-shouts "Oh the humanity!!"
We laugh like two kids, and settle down quietly.
"How's your magic coming?" Sergei whispers
"Fine. Ms. Zakinanie is teaching me."
"How many people does she teach, anyway?"
"Officially... nobody." I winked.
Teaching magic without government authority is illegal... but it's the only way to teach spells, and not theory.
Several quiet villages pass by, their windows softly lit, and their Tudor-style frames decorated for Christmas. It was next week, and Derevo would be decorating the giant tree in the town's center with magical lights and glittery spells. The whole town was lit up for the holidays. Even Nikolai was hard at work with his elf workforce. You, outsider, may know him as Saint Nickolas... or Santa Claus. It's a wonder the Ice Bridge of Gramitsy (portal to Earth) hasn't been soiled wih raindeer droppings by now.
We arrived in Derevo by 7:00 PM, and we went our own ways. He had a meeting to attend, and I went home. Musicians played in the streets as I walked along the snowy cobblestones of the town. It was much more humble than Sosul'ka, but still brilliant in it's own way. For one example, it actually has trees. Most Sosul'kans have never seen a tree, other than the exquisitely-potted willow bonsai. Suddenly, I saw an elf girl bolting down the street as quickly as her little legs could carry her, the crunching of the snow getting louder and louder as she ran towards me. She stopped, panting, practically on my toes.
"Mr... *huff* Mr... *pant* Son of Mr. Igor." She managed to say in her high-pitched voice.
"That's me. What is it?"
"Your father's been badly injured... *puff* by a Frost Giant assassin."
My heart went cold. Colder than the air outside.
"My God, this cant be- Is he alright? I mean, is he alive? Have you captured the attacker?"
"Yes, your dad's alive, and he'll recover. but he's a councellor... have you read today's headlines?"
"I skimmed them. Why would they strike him and not the King?"
"They left a note!" she cried when she caught her breath, and handed me a small, rolled-up piece of parchment. I untied the ribbon and unrolled it.
It read: "Dearest human-folk: For twelve years you have ignored our pleas for rightful treatment. As the first race of Winterland, having existed here for 21,000 years and you for a meager 1000 (travelling peasants, no less), we are entitled to royal privaleges in the entire nation. This is the only world we've known, unlike you, having come from across the Ice Bridge. From Earth. Russia."
I kept reading through the vitriol.
"Therefore, our proud and strong race will take what we demand by force if you do not respond to this ultimatum. And no, we have no sympathy for the man injured. Rule that out by now. We demand that we conquer the nation, establish an authoritarian rule and re-enforce the slavery of the elven scum. That is all. Enjoy yourselves."
I glanced down at the elven girl with a look of "...Seriously?".
"What's it say?" she peeped in her childish voice.
"This letter is trying to get us angry. The Frost Giants WANT war, but they haven't the gall to start it themselves. The letter is empty... aside from the blatant insults."
"What should we do?" She replied. "I... I have a Frost Giant friend. I hope we don't turn on each other."
"That won't happen... be on your toes... and tend to Dad. He's going to need to recover."
"Will do, sir!" She exclaimed with a nod and ran off to my house. I followed her home.
Weither the Frost Giants in their icy halls were really planning war was up in the air. One could feel the tension. We only had one option: Carry on as normal and defend one's self should fights arise.
Even the falling snow seemed out-of-sorts.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whoo, this was a long one! I've been wanting to type this up for a year, now. So, if you dare say tl;dr, I will take offence and boot you.
Noted, this isn't meant for reverse psychology.
The areas are as follows: Sosul'ka (capital, humans), Derevo (town, humans), Gramitsy (border outpost, all), Yel'gavan (harbor capital, elves), Niflheim (fortress capital, frost giants), Vesna (resort town, all). You can live in one of these places, and travel from place to place via train. Magic exists, and you can learn spells under covert teachers. You can be an actor, noble, peasant, etc. Anything you want, given that's it's an ordinary role. Nothing over-powered. Political roles or powerful characters will be reserved for the trusted. This is not a video game, you cannot do as you please with no consequences. What you do will affect the RP.
The atmosphere of the area is Pre-WWI Russia, and very wealthy. The towns and villages are in Tudor-style housing, and the capitals have very elaborate buildings. And yes, Sosul'ka is huge. It's like the Moscow of Winterland.

Elves are about four feet tall, and have the typically-imagined elvish clothing, or human clothing desiged to fit their petite form.
Frost Giants are icy, seven-foot tall warriors with bluish-white skin and frosty hair. Their clothing is like that of the Norse.
Humans are pretty self-explainatory.

The rules are as usual. No ubering, trolling, flaming, plot-twisting or controlling another person's character while they're not there. AND NO WARS. KAY?

Meh, go for it. I'm eager to make this self-sufficient (via only allowing the experienced and mature), since I can't be here all the time. I'm in my junior year of high school and I'm swamped before 1st semeter exams.

You'd be doing me a favor.

18th-19th century-esque. Pre-World War I Russia. So, semi-modern/Victorian.

Curses! My CS got blocked. Oh well, I'll find a way to circumvent the filter.

I am currently rather busy with Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. A classic.

(You don't have to type in Russian.)
Sorry I couldn't post yesterday; I was sleep deprived. I ate too much before bed and was restless.
But anyway...

Name: "Umbra" (Originally Andrei T.)
Ag.e: Unknown, appears 20-22.
Gen.der: M
Ra.ce: Human... in theory.
Location: Itinerant, frequents Sosul'ka and Vesna if he's well disguised.
Appearance: Only his face was spared. From his neck down, he is covered in black, segmented armor resembling chitin. The tips of his fingers are clawed, as are his toes. Clear, round stones are inlaid in his palms and chest, shining bright purple with dark magic. His face is completely white, almost lifeless, his lips pale and his irises the same shining purple as the gemstones on his armor. His hair is long, disheveled and iridescent black, like raven's feathers.
Bio: Not much is known about Umbra, other than he was an attempt by King Ymir's alchemists and wizards to find a weapon against the human people. They had tapped a very ancient, and extremely dark, source of magic. Surely, they thought, something so powerful would obliterate anything it touched. They tried to overkill Andrei...
and paid the price with their lives.
Extra: Extremely powerful.
(I'll add more info later. People are watching over my shoulder.)
